Can anyone please add to list artists who have covered this please....hubby and I walked down the aisle to this song (the Buckley version) and I'd like to find another version for our anniversary.

Kim Churchill
Rufus Wainwright (Shrek)
Jeff Buckley

Thanks in advance

Buddy Guy is without doubt the best guitar player alive.......the way he plays is beyond anyone. Amen

The answer to this question will fill a whole page as it's probably the most covered song ever, my choices would be Ella Hooper and K.D.Lang, apart of course from Leonard Cohen.

John Cale
k.d. lang
Alexandra Burke

plus other live verions - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallelujah_(Leonard_Cohen_song)

For me, Jeff Buckley's is the best (followed closely by Rufus Wainwright). Oh and Leonard Cohen didn't do a bad job either :-)

Bob Dylan covered it live back in the late 80s:

For my money, no one's done it better than Leonard himself. The version off his recent Live in London album is probably my pick.

U2 did a horrible cover. Just horrible!
I vaguely remember a Scottish sounding singer on a Shrek soundtrack.
Jeff Buckley's version is gorgeous, and the only one I've ever heard (and I would have heard dozens I'm sure) that approaches and maybe even equals Cohen.

Pinky Beecroft started to play it last Sunday at The Junkyard, and I thought wow Pinky's going to try and sing Hallelujah, but then went into one of his own songs. Would have been interesting. Or maybe not.

Not so much for the list but looking up Bit Torrents and ROIOs on Wikipedia shows there's another world out there
If there was only the time.

It's worth making the time. & there's a whole world of trading & sharing of shows.
I discovered this world when bidding on a dmb bootleg on ebay & got emails from complete strangers explaining I didn't have to buy this, it was available free. Many bands (esp dmb) are "taper freiendly", don't mind people taping their shows as long as they don't try to profit from it.
I'm always happy to trade or "b&p" (blanks & postage) as I only have the shows I have because of the efforts & generosity of others.
That's also why I like putting vids up on youtube, I don't audio tape, but I can share shows this way.

KD Lang wins.

For anyone who missed last night's Logies performance - and it doesn't matter how many times you've heard Hallelujah - it was spine tingling. A well deserved standing ovation.

There are between 125 and 150 Recognised and recorded covers of Hallelujah according to the Leonard Cohen Discussion Groups. Currently Hallelujah is Leonards 3rd most Covered Song. Suzanne is a clear number 1. Bird on a wire has in recent years (due to a ever growing number of country covers) has overtaken Hallelujah and is rapidly catching Suzanne.

One of the other two Legendary Beautiful Losers (these being Cohen, Faithfull, and DeVille) has also covered Hallelujah this of course being Marriane. Also almost all of Leonards backing vocalists have covered hallelujah. Namely Perla Batalla, Anjani Thomas, Sharon Robertson, Julie Christensen, The Webb sisters just to mention a few.
