The geetar nights looking pretty fantastic.

There also seems to be a distinct lack of yoof/jjj artists.

Things are looking good

This first anouncement is a knockout.
Guitar heaven is not overstated.................I Trust that Nigel Watson is going to be included in Peter Green's friends????
You don't need to announce anything else, I'm completely satisfied already!!!

I'd have to say that I find more to like in the announcement the more I look at it.

In all honesty, I find the Australian contingent thus far to be on the weak side, but I think that this is more than balanced by a varied and interesting mix of international names, most of whom are either first time attendees, or else more-than-welcome returns.

The country streak through the names so far is fine by me, as is the decent smattering of Louisiana faves.

Circumstances may mean that I struggle to get there next year (it will be tough if I'm not in the country), but I'm hoping that friendly scheuling will allow me to get there for 3 days at least, and hopefully catch most of the stuff that I'm keen on. Of course, a loaded 2nd announcement may force me to make a 5 day trek again.......

I think this is a great list of artists. Well done Pete.

Trumpet bells ringing
Bass drum is swinging
As the trombone groans
And the big horn moans

Forgot to mention Lil Band of Gold.................we are at last going to be blessed with the appearance of CC Adcock!!!!!!

Think you are being a bit hard on the Aussie line up to date, Scott. Three of your greatest performers , Barnsy, Renee Geyer, and Crowded House in the first announcement!!!!!!! (even if Crowded House are really a Kiwi band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I thought about my comment since posting - I can't doubt their success and worthy status, it really comes back to a personal taste thing.
That said, the Australian acts that I would suggest don't add a great deal from a marketability stand point, more solid smaller stage performers. Names like Kill Devil Hills, Wagons, Jen Cloher would be great from a personal standpoint, but they obviously wouldn't take the Crowded House headline slot. Anyway point is, wasn't meaning to complain, just a personal observation.

Like Scott, the more I look at this initial line up the more I really really like it. The quality of the artists is second to none, they cross an incredibly broad range of genres (W. African, Cuban, gypsy, Lousiana swamp, New Orleans funk, blues, rockabilly, country) and for most it's their first appearance at the festival (plus the return of favorites Dr John and Buddy Guy).

The second and third announcements are gonna be the icing on the cake!

Hangin' out on Frenchmen

Didn't Peter Green and Nigel Watson have a falling out a while back? He was the one who seemed to get Peter back into his music as part of the Peter Green Splinter Group:Put together several great CDs, especially a Robert Johnson Songbook...anyone know any further info on his "friends"?

Fantastic first announcement. Congratulations Peter - you were true to your word. Geeetar heaven. (... well closer to heaven)

Better than that - the first Fest at its new home looks like it is going back to more of the Fest's "old school" original feeling. Yayyyy! (yes - happy to start that discussion again!!!)

If this sort of quality & diversity of acts is anything to go by - bring on more announcements!!!

Re the (lack of) Aussie Artists: I have been told by a regular (10+ times) BF band that they only receive confirmation of playing a few weeks before Easter.

I am therefore hopeful of seeing in the 3rd announcement The Fumes, Dallas Frasca, Marshall & the Fro, Mojo Juju & the Snakeoil Merchants, Kim Churchill, Chase the Sun, Paul Green, Kim Southon etc.

Be also nice to have The Waifs back. Be double nice to give JBT and Xavier a year off....

Buddy Guy is without doubt the best guitar player alive.......the way he plays is beyond anyone. Amen
