I feel that Pearl Jam will be embarrassingly starstruck.

I doubt that. Letterman has had Pearl Jam perform on his show many times over the years as he is a big fan.

This was posted on Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's Facebook page this morning:

"Due to illness, Neil Young is regrettably no longer able to induct Pearl Jam at this Year's Induction Ceremony. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is thrilled that David Letterman has agreed to induct the band this Friday night at the 32nd Annual Induction Ceremony. We're wishing Neil a speedy recovery."

Could explain why he cancelled Bluesfest. Hope he's ok.

Anxious

Thanks for posting this Eileen. It was the first I'd heard of it when I saw your post this morning. Hope Neil recovers well from whatever the problem is. x

The representative reportedly said that Young “has not been feeling well” but that the sickness keeping him from tomorrow’s ceremony is not anything big.

Letterman's RRHoF induction speech for Pearl Jam was actually pretty entertaining.

Get John Hiatt back.
Every bit as good a songwriter as Neil Young.
Lots of fantastic albums

Letterman did go to the same High School as John Hiatt.

At first I didn't recognise him with the facial hair - https://youtu.be/mvxkCvWp2P8

Can't say I was ever a letterman fan.
He seemed to waste a lot of time playing with his tie & making bad jokes about the gap in his teeth.
A little like Conan obrian doing his hair jokes.
But I liked the music on the show.
He was a big Warren Zevon fan & had him on the show quite a lot.
As for Paul Schaffer ...less said the better.
Steve Vizard tried to copy letterman & did a shocker of a show IMPO.

Now that pearl jam have been inducted ,would it be too much to ask
them to quietly disappear?

When they go low-we go high.

Why? They still have a lot to offer the music world and have legions of fans.
If anyone should disappear it should be the Rolling Stones.

They have lots left.

Never liked The Letterman show and didn't know what he was talking about most of the time.. I guess you had to be an American living in New York to truly understand it ? Anyway it was always on too late and I would fall asleep after the first 10 minutes or so.

I don't think any musician should retire or "fade away quiety"
Some of my favourite artists put out their best work in their twilight years.
eg Bowie, Marianne Faithfull, Leonard Cohen, Dylan, Young etc

I've never gone on this forum to diss someone's favourite band just for the sake of it. If you don't like them it's your problem. No need to keep repeating it just to have a dig at me. One comment was enough. Troll.
