the highlight of the bluesfest. One of the best I have seen in 60 years of concert going. Bring her back.

Yes I agree she filled the spot occupied by Eilen Jewell in another year.
But does she write her own songs ?

Occasionally but I don't really care if most of her stuff belongs to others. For me, Ms Giddens mostly interprets songs I have never heard of and brings them to a wider audience. Or she gets a well known song and puts her distinctive mark on it. Bit like a great orchestra being hailed for a Beethoven symphony. Many have played the same music over time but only a few are lauded for their efforts.

And unlike the serious interpretation of a classical music standard, she looks like she is having a ball while doing it. Which makes her very interesting with an appeal that crosses the genre boundary. And makes the banjo almost cool. Did I really say that?

She has a bad dose of tonsillitis looked to be really feeling it last night, in no way did it impact her voice. She is at her peak as a performer she owns the best voice on this years line up - worth going to see her for that alone. Band were exceptional too.

Her voice was amazing at The Factory last night, wouldn't have picked there was a problem, though she did look tired towards the end. I think the show was cut short a few songs.

My dear mccinn0000
I'm delighted to read of your enthusiasm regarding Ms Giddens. I distinctly remember you poo pooing her announcement for this year's festival.

Let's hope Ms Giddens' voice is healed.
She might need to be like Ian Anderson & use it sparingly.

She's playing the Delta 9.30pm Thurs and 7.30 Fri.

Saw her today - she plays the factory in Sydney on Monday. Melb on Wed.

She'll be headlining in the not too distant future - I sincerely doubt we'll see a more talented artist (male or female) over the weekend. You have 2 chances to see her, if you have a choice of seeing someone for the second time or discovering one new artist over the weekend just go see her- me and MG promise you a money back guarantee if you watch her full set and don't enjoy. If your jaw doesn't drop during her show you'll need an X ray or a brain scan

Apology accepted - I believe it was mempbeer that was having a whinge for a change re giddens. As for Maccain he has been silenced for some time now - too many truth bombs. I think he works for Alex Jones now - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nABABiIUVq4&sns=em

Just in case that mangled group of letters is an attempt to suggest that I made some sort of slight against Giddens, I can only suggest that your memory is starting to fail you. I recall first seeing Giddens perform on an episode of Later... with Jools Holland. My interest was piqued.

I think she is very talented and definitely deserves to be part of any bluesfest line-up. Her back catalogue is a tad too americana for my taste. I've recommended her to others who are more into that colour of the musical rainbow. Some were already familiar with her Honeydrops material.
