Mmmmmm. It will be interesting to see if he receives the wrath of the public and bluesfest is forced to cancel his show a la Ike Turner. Or if the public is willing to ignore past violence against woman and embrace him with open arms a la James Brown. Of course big Don has yet to be found guilty. Back to court on 22 Feb.

Don McLean was arrested on a misdemeanour domestic violence charge at the lowest level possible.
The police were called to his home as a result of someone in his home reporting a loud argument between him and his wife.
It is not alleged that any physical violence of any type occurred.
This is about a man and his wife having a serious disagreement, it is required by law that a person be removed (read man) and that a charge be laid.
Like Australian AVO's. How many amongst us have had something similar occur?
This is a storm in a teacup, accompanied by the usual media beat up and hypothesising
Thanks

But why did "someone in his home" feel the need to call the police?

There appears to be a lot of people jumping the gun here. Unless they have access to more details than appear in the press. I have read 2 articles on this matter and I have no idea what has happened as those articles had the bare minimum of information. I do not support DV in any form and from any party but how many times have we seen instances escalate without the full facts being known. And I am not just talking about DV here. Aren't we all entiltled to innocence until proven guilty. This does not appear to be the case here. Judgement from some quarters have already been handed down. Quick justice is great justice they say. I am sure that we will find out more details in due course.

As always, some people never let the facts get in the way of a good story.
The one thing I have learnt over many years is to wait until all the facts are in before passing any sort of judgement.

Thank you.
We are advised that both Don and his wife are both devastated, as well as embarrassed by all the media attention.
This is an example of all that is wrong with media.
The mis-reporting, saying he assaulted his wife was abhorrent, it was an argument.
Anyway, let's all move on
Thanks

My wife and I had a heated argument just after we got married.
She called the police on me, (worried I might hurt myself, I had said some dumb things)

The cops came around, interviewed us separately and decided to take me to jail.
This was after the argument had finished, scared the #$@% out of both of us.
She managed to talk them out of it, we were extremely embarrassed over this.

We laugh about it now,,,

I understand I will more than likely be barred from the forum for this post yet I must say something. I can't understand why the Mod was so quick to jump the gun and take as gospel the word of Don's publicist. Mgwfall gets barred for asking a simple question.
"This is an example of all that is wrong with media.
The mis-reporting, saying he assaulted his wife was abhorrent, it was an argument."
Really Mod? Really?
It seems his wife thinks it was more than an argument.
“Meanwhile, his wife said that he has repeatedly abused her over the course of their years together, and has gotten a temporary order of protection against him.”
I believe your one sided view of the situation is just as bad as the media jumping the gun. Both sides need to be heard. I understand no one has been found guilty of anything yet this information has to count for something.

Just try to point out the fact that the lead guitarist from the Who was charged with downloading sick and highly illegal material and watch the defenders jump in because they love his records

The bloke was on a sex offenders register for 5 years. The authorities considered him a danger to society - now they queue up in their thousands to pay top dollar to celebrate his music. I was a big fan and looked forward to his autobiography to read his version of events - lets just say you would want to be a pretty big fan to buy the excuse he was selling... Which was zero

Dear Moderator, This is one of those threads that you should just simply delete. It's not about music. You've got the people on one side thinking he's guilty and you've got people on the other side defending his innocence. Me ? I wouldn't have the foggiest. I wasn't there. It's just going to turn into a terrible conversation. I'm at a high level of excitement over what's coming in 60 days time and I really don't want to log into for my favourite reading and be confronted with topics like domestic violence. I can get that in the local paper.

These things have so very little to do with the music we're getting ready to hear at Easter ...

Finalised my accomodation today, starting to feel the Bluesfest vibe..

Is that lead guitarist about Who is spoken above, the same fella who bin playing lead for 50 years of so?
I was completely unaware of that one???

True but it's not about sides. I can't wait for the festival. This is general discussion and I believe this topic is relevant considering or because of the press, and the fact he is playing the fest. I remember the Ike Turner situation. I'm interested in the outcome and all of your views. It should not be taken down.

but it's ok for an anonymous moderator to villify a forum poster?

It was unfair of you to print my forum name when you had deleted most of the posts (mine & others) on this discussion, so no one could read the discussion & form their own opinion re criticism of your choice of words or vilifying an artist.

Perhaps you will be pleased to know the McLeans have reconciled.
Should you take the time to educate yourself you will see new statements have been made by both parties.
They are now asking for the media to leave them alone.
You jumped the gun, not knowing information that had been passed to us. That is now coming to light.
We asked everyone to hold judgement. It seems things were said by both parties they now regret. They agree that no assault occurred.
Your opinions were not appreciated, as they took sides, and you played the blame game. I was right to give you a suspension. I would have no problem doing it again in alike circumstances
