A Grammy Award (originally called Gramophone Award), or Grammy, is an accolade by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) of the United States to recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry. The annual presentation ceremony features performances by prominent artists, and the presentation of those awards that have a more popular interest. It shares recognition of the music industry as that of the other performance arts: Emmy Awards (television), the Tony Awards (stage performance), and the Academy Awards (motion pictures).

It is awarded to finalists within a number of categories to artists who have released in the previous 12 months the recordings deemed by their
Peers to deserve to win a coveted Grammy
A Grammy win, is for the best of the best
Even artists who are nominated list the nomination throughout their career
Thanks

The Grammys used to be the Bees Knees back in the day.

But it has been about the corporations, more than the music, for a long time

And has been used more as a marketing tool, than anything else for years.

Life time achievement awards are a different thing.

From what I have read and heard, in a variety of publications, and media outlets elsewhere, it seems that the Americana Music Awards, have more credibility these days.

But they are still trying to figure out, exactly what Americana means? As there are a varied bunch in there.

Plenty of artists have been indifferent or bemused, by their Grammy nomination or win over the years.

But that is up to them.

The fact that a person has won a Grammy, has to me no bearing, as to whether I would go see and hear them or not.

If they had won what used to be a W C Handy award, I would be a little bit more excited.

I grew up in a household that was in the TV advertising and marketing industry, so you become impervious to hype and other such stuff, after a while

But some people may be swayed by that, and good luck to them.
.
Everyone is different, and I remember being greatly bemused when I first visited the the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland, and there was a Madonna display in there.

And it was not a religious one.

To each their peach

Checked with Peter Noble
He said the Grammy his record label won in 2009 with Terrance Simien remains a career high.
As well as the Gramy Nomination for Cubanismo
He said to even be nominated for a Grammy is one of the greatest things that can happen to an artist. The Grammy finalists are nominated by their peers
In the industry. When you win a Grammy, you are always a member of one of the most exclusive clubs on the planet.
One, every artist wants to be a member of.
The American Music Award winners are not remembered for long. The Grammy winners are never forgotten
Thanks

ARIA certifications

A music single or album qualifies for a platinum certification if it exceeds 70,000 copies shipped to retailers and a gold certification for 35,000 copies shipped.

For music DVDs (formerly videos), a gold accreditation originally represented 7,500 copies shipped, with a platinum accreditation representing 15,000 units shipped.

The ARIA website says 'wholesale sales'.

This distinction is rather important in the current retail environment. With JB Hifi accounting for a large chunk of the physical media sales in Australia, the items on their shelf are often still the wholesaler's stock right up until a customer pays for it. Previously, high wholesale sale numbers may be distorted by a retailer over-estimated the demand for a release.

Lets stick to the subject and try to avoid waffling on completely unrelated subjects.

In 1985 Lionel Richie’s album that I’m sure very few people here own, beat Born in the USA and Purple Rain for best album. I have no clue what Lionel’s album was called and I’m very sure that no one else could possibly remember. I’m glad I wont be subjected to his Vegas Cabaret act this year at BF.

I recall that Herbie Hankok for ??? beat Amy Winehouse’s back to black.

The soundtrack for the bodyguard beat REM’s automatic for the people (No joke)

Only recently did Mumford and sons with a one track album beat – The Black Keys/Jack White and Frank Ocean’s Planet Orange (how Frank Ocean lost is a mystery).

They have made some big mistakes at the old Grammy awards for sure.
