The program has interesting notes to the free Domain concerts
Could there be some Genre Profiling being used

Code:
A)  Summer Sounds
THIS IS AN ALL AGES STANDING EVENT
No BYO food or drinks. The Domain is a licensed venue, food and drinks available for purchase.
Arrive at 5pm when the gate opens to avoid disappointment, as there is a capacity. Bags and IDs will be checked at the entry.

B) Opera
No need to BYO
Food and drinks available for purchase from 4pm.

C) Symphony
It wouldn’t be summer in Sydney without Symphony in The Domain. Celebrate our 40th by bringing a hamper, a blanket and your friends

Is it correct that food and water are prohibited imports at Summer Sounds, optional at the Opera and encouraged at the Symphony ??
I've emailed organizers with this question, will post their reply

Dear Greybeard,

Thank you for your message. Delighted to hear of your enjoyment of the 2006 Jazz in The Domain.

Yes, you are right, there are differing rules around food and beverage for our Domain concerts. The main distinction is that no food or drink can be brought to Summer Sounds, but it’s ok to bring these to the other two concerts.

Thanks,

A stunning reply, not sure they can really monitor the Domain with the crowd converging in a short window of time and so wide an entry
Class warfare perhaps. The snobs get to take their endangered beluga caviar
Isn't taking plenty of water a health requirement for a number of Music Event patrons - those following alternate lifestyles. Will it lead to deaths?
Will it lead to the fall of the Baird Government?

Its a sad state of affairs.

This festival gets worse every year. I recall when it generated a buzz. It used to bring great artists to town.

They once had Free concerts by Mondo Cane - the Rev Al - That popular spainish guy (franti clone) that played BF. Now its all about catering to the yuppie set - heaps of icelandic deep house acts...

It also includes a performance by Kirran J Callnan - Last time i saw that guy play support to TV on the Radio he caused a mass walkout. Total and utter drivel.

Worst musical line up in the history of this festival that looks more like an insult to the good people of Sydney. Utter tripe. (no offence intended o grey one).

Hopefully kirran plays this classic for the festival goers :

The free Opera in the Park and Symphony Under the Stars concerts in the Domain were always the best thing about the Sydney Festival.

Not true
Terrance Simien/ The Dirty Dozen and Preservation Hall Jazz free concert was incredible.Johnny's girl Rosanne Cash was very good and a link to a twentieth century icon, to see Lou Reed bring my vinyl Berlin to life was memorable Then there has been Brian Wilson, Sharon Jones, Elvis Costello and more. But it is hit and miss at times
Currently I have a freebie to Richard Glover's Thank God it's Friday and will be setting a record by three consecutive Sundays in church to see Mirel Wagner / Nadia Reid then Richard Bishop / Daniel Bachman and lastly Michael Hurley / Meg Baird and considering a few others.

People who complain that such festivals have nothing to offer are simply too well fed.
Go and live somewhere remote for five years and get in touch with the fact that you are spoilt for choice.

"An artist never really chooses when and where they will play.It is for promoters to make offers. It comes down as to whether tours are financially viable." Quote John Mayall.

Dead right ranger - just noticed the flaming lips did a free gig last night?

I read the booklets and flyers didn't see that advertised but saw kirran is playing - not sure what kind of medication someone needs to be on to appreciate this - he makes the residents seem like a commercial sell out act. There's a fine line between being creative and taking the piss...

One of my all time fav reviews of a terrible idea that came to life at the festival.
