http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2015-02-17/leading-greyhound-figure-bob-smith-live-baiting-controversy/6131244

If a multi billion dollar industry encourages its dogs to preform by using live bait and the taste of blood as incentives? How do we know the police aren't up to even worse?

The sniffer dogs should be a revenue generator, but the failure rate is so high all they do is clog up the courts with sham trails where the key witness is unable to testify even when the dog pulls off a 10/1 fluke positive search.

It's time all public facing dogs are suspended until we know more! Obviously we need bomb dogs in airports and rescue dogs but never been a better reason to look at dog related work place practices.

It's not fair to exploit our closest spiritual friends on this earth.

Taken from the ALFs website: in an interview with a living legend and beacon of positivity in the world of blues as well as a champion of great causes. Similar to Bono or Franti or Jack Jackson.

Mystical dog incident
While being interviewed by PETA, Seagal was asked to provide an example of a special interaction with an animal. To lend context and meaning to his animal rights work, Seagal offered the story about a dog which approached him during his early aikido years in Japan. Seagal described feeling as if he had known this white dog forever. After keeping the dog for a few days, the dog (by barking) warned Seagal that his dojo was on fire. Seagal quickly summoned help to put out the conflagration. Seagal never saw the dog again.

Wasn't the whole trigger for this rant the claim that the use of drug detection dogs wasn't sufficient evidence to suspect someone of being in possession of drugs? You have just used the gambling-driven industry to justify an unsubstantiated claim about police drug detection dogs being subject to abuse. The use of the word 'weak' to describe it would be giving too much credit to the link you just made.

This thread needs to be put out of its misery. Hopefully the current bluesfestadmin can do it in a way which you consider humane enough to not justify a new tread / rant.

I have known some small time Greyhound racing families.
They adore their dogs, have winning snaps of them on the walls of their homes.
Keep them past retirement as beloved pets, and only race a few dogs at a time.

Then their are the other kind, (usually wealthy, not battlers)
And as the Mafia would say before they throw you into the sea, "Its just Business"
I think the worst thing about that industry is the blood letting of the dogs.
But the vets do use that blood to save other animals lives so it is a moral dilemma.

As for police dogs, they are commissioned officers and are always treated with respect and kindness.
They are lucky dogs, in one of the few occupations that dogs can still work in.
They are happy and healthy and ready to serve, and the cops have got their back so don't worry about them.

Now to change the subject,,,
When is this announcement going to happen?????????

Until Lenny is announced for sat this thread might stay up....

A comedy about a police dog and his reluctant partner or social commentary on how police hounds can get credit for work done by real police?

Chuck has always been fiercely political so I think we know which one it is.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdGzAWg_dtk&sns=em

It's time someone made a movie or a documentary on how dogs can ruin the festival experience. If the facts surrounding the effectiveness of the dogs were no longer suppressed by the government and how much tax payer money is wasted. The practice would be scrapped the next day.

It could be a five part series with commentary from artists, politicians like David Shoebridge and even some comic relief with interviews with the right wing loons who blindly support police gambling with human rights with this totally incompetent method of policing.

Agree.........And if other posters are narcisstic enough to debate with Maccain09,they are merely falling into his plan of keeping the thread in neon.
As the previous moderator said, make some posts about music instead ...aarrgghh

Reading Mikes article brought me close to tears... It's time the dogs were set free on a paddock now.. Poor creatures looking for the next high, strung out stressed out and depressed. It's just shocking...

For anyone that was as upset for the dogs as i was here's the link again to that comiedy classic to take the edge off..

As for Barry's tips it's no wonder that he is one of the most respected political activists in the United States today.

I encourage every parent to follow his web updates.

Interesting points being made and can see both sides of the coin on this one.

If we are to take the drug dealer/pushers out of the equation, does this stop & search policy have any purpose?? Possession of a small quantity of (self usage) pot being the soul charge the police are looking to lay of a festival goer.

Although we may argue whether possession is right or wrong, the good questions being asked are whether this is a good expenditure of our tax payers money? I also agree with the civil liberties point raised as although alot of people on the forum are not bothered by the process, a lot of people are and do feel embarrassment. I recall a young teenage girl crying as she was led away from her friends are being targeted by the dogs. Luckily she re-appeared moments later (obviously innocent), but that becomes he lasting memory of her first festival.

I don't see the point here is what other ideas do we have to stop drug taking, but rather how do we protect the 90% of innocent people being searched. We are slowly slipping towards the UK's Stop & Search - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-28923242

As big of a supported of the Arts that I am, I won't be making the drive to White Cliffs. I'll have to stay content with my 10hrs+ drives to fill my soul with live music

What a classic thread.. Lovers of the festival debating issues outside of music - Australia has come a long way over the past few years with the legalization of the mighty leaf and proper marsupial protection taking center stage at high level debates.

As for the calls for gaming rooms in the VIP tent - its doubtful as there cant be a proper connection to any real combined pokie club jackpot etc.

For God's sake, who cares if someone has a spliff at a festival?

Surely that's why it was created

Bluesfest never has this issue. It has never once rained on the punters waiting for the gates to open.
And no turnstiles mean no electronic problems.
Last time I was at the Cake-tin was for David Bowie
14 February 2004.And it poured down with rain. They were sweeping water off the stage with brooms.
Crazy location to have an outdoor concert.
