Looking forward to seeing Michael Franti at the Metro. Been a while since I've seen him (purposely avoid seeing him at Bluesfest due to the crowd). His latest album has been getting a thrashing. Also have tickets to see Irish Mythen at the Django Bar in Marrickville. Trying to work out how to see Matt Andersen at Lizottes.

Thanks Mr Nocheesegromit. Just found out Matt Anderson coming to The Republic in Hobart in November. Now, if can only get Irish Mythen to make a little detour down here in October during her Australian tour.

Off to see Matt Andersen at the Milk Factory, he is always on our list when he is at Bluesfest.

Steel Pulse were incredible last night. They mix it up so well and the toasting with drum 'n bass was a special feature. The best reggae band out of the UK by a country mile...a shame they haven't performed at fest.

Mrs Nelson had nothing but praise for James Reyne and Mark Seymour in Hobart last Friday. She said the pair were at the top of their game, mixing their own songs with some creative covers. She should know as saw both of them at their peak back in the day. The place went off apparently as I imagine would any of the Bluesfest tents should they make an appearance.

City Calm Down at The Republic in Hobart. Surprisingly good and a packed house loved it. Hard to define but here goes - bit of The National combined with a little bit of the Cure, some Joy Division and even a dollop of OMD - though am sure I saw some of the band members smiling on stage. Support was Ali Barter, young indie singer from Melbourne.

Further out on the edge than Tasmania, covers are an essential part of entertainment.

This fantastic show was here last week.I did not know any of the songs, but that was irrelevant.

The North of England tribute band did great justice to the legend that is Bowie, and I make that comment having twice seen him live.

I've seen some really bad live YouTube clips of them (B52's) in recent years.
I really liked their early stuff especially 52 girls. What happened to them???

I saw them in 1980 & thought they were really corny.
Made worse by the fact that they had police officers guarding them on stage.

Chris Wilson, Ray Beadle & Charlie a'Court's gig "Best of Chess Records" at The Basement was brilliant.

Would be an excellent fit for Bluesfest (& Peter, they want to play more shows)

A band called the Cult are playing down here in November.
A rare treat.
Never heard of them.
A glance reveals that the vocalist is the guy who filled Jim's spot in Doors of the 21st Century.
And they are post punk/gothic.
A must see.
Hope the locals support the gig

Henry Rollins last night in Canberra. Beyond brilliant.
