Dear angrymx
I respectfully disagree with your comments regarding Midnight Oil.

The trolls on this forum outnumber the non trolls.

I have always like Midnight Oil and saw them a lot back in their early days.
I think this guys was just saying what he thinks, and don't think it was troll like.
And I don't agree with him But everyone is allowed to have an opinion.

You miss my point.
Which was not whether the band are socialists or brute capitalists.
Are you able to differentiate between trolls with multiple identities and posters with one identitity.
It appears not.
Admin is unable to.
The forum has been reduced to such a joke,Facebook looms as a realistic option.
Adapting to change is a fact of life.
As for Midnight Oil,apart from the fact that they have Peter Garrett as the lead vocalist, and that they are Au icons,I know nothing about the band.any of the band members or any of their songs.

I cannot be bothered with responding to most of your post.

As it is in nonsensical in parts. But so be it.

I am surprised that such an authority as your good self, is not aware of Rob Hirst.

As I assume that you may have seen or heard of the fantastic Backsliders?

When it comes to Rob Hirst I think the ranger would be more into The Break than the oils - https://youtu.be/q3fNNjtvf9U

You are onto it brother.
I remember asking for Surf Music one year.
Peter Noble took notice & booked a Surf band especially for me.
And no I have never seen the Backsliders and cannot name any of their members.
Actually I am not an authority on music.
It is not possible if you live at a remote location.
Because you do not have access to live music.
And anyone who has more than narrow taste & narrow knowledge.

They say it is a Cold Chisel Song but another clip says it is a Midnight Oil Song.
Doesn't do alot for me.
This does.

As does this version which is good it makes you wonder if they have glossed it up.

The Backsliders are a great band and have played at BluesFest many many times.

It is surprising that BluesFests head cheer leader/ forums arbiter of taste is not aware of them.

Having said that I have never heard of Nascar until recent times, and am glad that he is creating lots of work for the Soul Rebels.

I think they're second only to Hat Fitz for the most number of appearances.
Also played Narooma multiple times.

I remember them in one of the smaller tents a few years ago and thought they were amazing. I wish I had seen them when Jim Conway was in the band.

I remember seeing the Backsliders at BF in about 2007. [Got there early. I love the Reg Ansett approach of musos, as they do all their own connections and plugs prior to the gig. Like shearers oiling their tools before the bell rings... to mix metaphors.] Jim Conway was seated in his chair doing a soundcheck with a water bottle nearby. He went to have a sip and it fell to the ground. He could not retrieve his bottle without assistance from a roadie. 10" later the band let rip. In that playing environment Jim was supreme, with super powers. very moving, and a testament to the power of music and in this instance, Jim Conway.

First time I saw the Backsliders at Bluesfest, Jim walked on stage with crutches and leg braces. (I think this was 93)
Next time I saw them he was in a wheelchair. This was in the days when they were mostly instrumental.
Can anyone remember that Robert Johnson song they used to close with where Peter would smash up his drum kit?

I have so many good memories of this band, they were frequently the highlight of the festival.
I prefer their earlier career because they played of lot of delta and I think they were the best in the world at it.
I've seen them countless times blow every other band away, this was when they were purists.

I still like them a lot and will watch anything any of them appear in.
My wife and I loved Phill and Dom from a few years back, didn't dare miss a set.
Everything these guys do is "Golden"

For those of you who don't know, Jim has multiple sclerosis. I saw on his Facebook page that he had recently spent a month in hospital with severe burns after spilling a cup of hot coffee on his lap. I also remember him from his Matchbox days on stage with brother Mic. Could never understand how he could keep such a straight face during Mic's crazy antics.
