Don't know if this has been brought up on the forum before...
but why does it say "ALAS NO MIDNIGHT OIL THIS YEAR" on the official posters? Is that strange to anyone else

Im a bit of an idiot when it comes to posting images, ha ha
But on bluesfests website (main page), all the lineup posters have it written in yellow towards the bottom of the lineup.
Even before todays announcement...just seems weird to mention it, don't you think?
Ill try and link the pic

Maybe so, but they could also say "NO [name your preferred artist] this year" about a multitude of artists. I agree with the OP, it does seem a bit strange to have included that.

It kills off the speculation, in any event. The rumour mill was running white hot on the Oils in particular, so I guess it puts the focus back on the acts who are being announced.

I was talking to Peter Garrett at the Woodford Folk Festival (he goes as a punter). I said that there were a few Bluesfest people disappointed that he wouldnt be playing this year... he gave me a bit of cryptic smile and said "It's a bit too soon between drinks".
I took it as him just wanting some time out after the chaos of politics but I am pretty sure he will be back.

This has intrigued me since day 1. Is it cryptic ? Is there going to be a band called Alas that will not have all members of the Oils present ?

You might be onto something....it could be a supergroup calling themselves 'Alas No Midnight Oil This Year' or ANMOTY for short. It will be a allstar jam session.

Ah - you are getting closer. There will be three bands - "ALAS NO", "MIDNIGHT OIL" and "THIS YEAR"

Perhaps the punctuation has been mixed up and it was actually lamenting the addition of the Oils. 'Alas, No! Midnight Oils *This* Year'.

They'd be messing with our heads if the 'and so many more' quote at bottom of poster doesn't come to fruition!

Perhaps it is only related to the 'soulshine' segment of the program and they are expecting a whole heap of special guests to turn up and take turns teaching everyone their favourite yoga positions. Jack Johnson is my tip to be one of those.

Maybe not too late to be adding the Oils to the lineup, after todays Black Keys news??
