So many great tracks.
Bobby Womack who Bluesfest had lined up for 2015 and now Johnny Winter.
A reminder that our life on this earth is short.
Catch such great musicans any time you can.
Because it may be your last opportunity.
You never know the time or the place.

"An artist never really chooses when and where they will play.It is for promoters to make offers. It comes down as to whether tours are financially viable." Quote John Mayall.

Oh no, no, no.

Like all the old bluesmen and women, he kept playing almost to the end. I was still at school when I first heard him, then all through my adulthood and finally seeing him perform at the 2009 jazzfest. Indeed, he performed again at this year's jazzfest. He had to deal with chronic health issues for years but it didn't stop him from performing. His final recording, with a stellar line up of support musicians, will be posthumously released.

RIP Johnny.....

RIP Johnny

Loved the Johnny Winter And Live, album as a young teen, and saw Johhny put on a great show at the Palace in Melbourne probably late 80s.

Was lucky enough to Johhny at JazzFest in 2009 and am glad to say that I skipped the Springsteen crowds, to watch Johhny put on a good rocking show at

Fest this year. He was still performing until the end, like most good ones who still can.

I followed my rule of watching the older or ailing artists who you do not know when you will get the chance to see again.

Loved hearing Johnny rip out a solo on his live stuff and then bellow out a very loud YEAH. Sad indeed, but his memory will live on. RIP

Very sad news indeed and certainly he too featured heavily into my early introduction to the blues in my early high school days. Three scores and ten was mort a bad innings for someone with albinoism. Vale Johnny Winter a blues giant and legend and thanks for your music.

We here at Bluesfest are really saddened to hear of Johnny's passing.
We had only finalised our offer for Johnny to tour Australia and perform at Bluesfest earlier this week.
This is really a shock.
Johnny Winter had set time aside to come back to Australia next Easter after last touring in the 1980's.
It was not easy for him to make the commitment, given his difficulty with travel, and although frail in health, after so many times trying to get him to come, it looked like this
time, it was going to happen.
To hear we are never going to hear him play again, with his comeback CD, featuring so many great players, about to be released, is a tragedy.
He was getting out there touring again at a level he hadn't for some years. It just doesn't seem fair, when his career was finally on the up swing.
Johnny Winter was one of the greats.
How sad

very good tribute to Johnny on, Off The Record, this morning, as you would expect.

I enjoyed re hearing an interview that William Pinnell had done with Johnny years ago, plus some great music.

Haven't been on the forum for sometime due to overload of work.

Did not want to see this!!! I had seen nothing in the NZ news media so was unaware of his passing.
I did not ever see Johnny live but have been a disciple of his since the sixties and have enjoyed his recent work immensely.

A couple of years back I read his book, Raisin' Cain by Mary Lou Sullivan, a wonderful insight into one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

Well, his 2011 album Roots is going on right now and a good red is going to be opened!

RIP Johnny Winter..........I'll miss you.

R.I.P. Johnny, he was one of my all time heroes, I saw him in 1986 at the Hordern Pavilion, what a show.

Another one gone too soon.
I saw Johnny twice luckily. Once at Hammersmith Odeon around 1985, the 3-piece with Jon Paris playing bass and harp-great show-and in 2003 at B.B.King's in NYC.
One of my guitar heroes.
R.I.P.
