just noticed the english beat are touring and at the zoo in brisbane tonight. too late for me,but would have loved to catch that one.they were at bluesfest a few years ago as half of THE SPECIAL BEAT.great ska.

I don't want to hang up my rock n roll shoes
I get a good time feeling every time I hear those blues.

The English Beat, which is the Dave Wakeling & Co version, are playing Dunedin on 29th May.
But that is not who played Bluesfest.
The Bluesfest band was toaster Ranking Roger & drummer Everett Morton.
Different Band.
From reviews I have read,I suspect the version we saw at Bluesfest was the better.
Ranking Roger & Neville Staple of the Specials were an excellent combination out front.
Thank you for reminding me that I must buy a ticket.

The Dunedin gig has been cancelled.
Obviously not sufficient tickets sold.
I am not going to pay for plane fares & accommodation to one of the other venues.
The public can hardly complain about the lack of live music if they do not support what is offered.

don't worry ranger a friend saw them at the zoo in brisbane last night and said they were tedious and repetitious after a few songs

Yes I suspect you are correct Spanner.
Nevertheless if I lived in a city where they were playing,I would be there.
It is all about the songs.

I interviewed Dave Wakeling when he first brought The English Beat downunder back in 2012 (hear the interview here).

Here are the NZ gig posters for their return to NZ.

Excellent set list.
Apparantly the show was very good.
Just lacked a toaster.

Presently watching DVD Special Beat Ska'd in Sydney
And also this evening watched DVD The Beat In Concert at The Royal Festival Hall.
Looking foward to Ranking Roger & Ranking Junior's sets at Bluesfest 2015.
I will be at the front for both.
Thanks to Bluesfest for including some Ska on the bill.

They are a highlight for me and one of the real standouts from post punk period in UK.

Having Madness at Bluesfest will be the icing on the cake!

Madness were booked but cancelled.
If they do appear they would have to be a headline main tent act.
Great to see Ranking Roger & Peter Noble stepping it out with Melbourne Ska Orchestra Saturday set..
More than one song would have been appreciated.

I did not realise that both Neville Staple & Roddy Radiation had left The Specials.
Can't imagine them without Neville outfront.
How fortunate we were to have The Beat at Bluesfest 2015,The Specials at Bluesfest 2012 and Special Beat at Bluesfest 2009.
Cherish such moments while you have the opportunity, for they may never be repeated.

I know that the Director would have no hesitation in booking The Beat for some more appearances at Bluesfest, given the opportunity.
And with Ranking Junior also out front,it greatly assists Raking Senior.
