As for English Social Commentary.
And as I earlier posted, the message that Jake Bugg is sending, reminds of other English artists as the Kinks.
In addition,Jake's second album,released in 2013,is called Shangri-La.
When the word Shangri-La is mentioned in musical terms,my mind would historically turn to the well known Kinks song "Shangri-La'' written by Ray Davies and released on the 1969 Kinks album Arthur[Or the decline and fall of the British Empire].
Perhaps Jake's parents played the album in his presence.

I am very impressed with Jake's good taste,as evidenced by the above article.
He listens to Echo & The Bunnymen who are a simply wonderful band.

Spot the similarities between the Bunnymen vocalist Ian McCulloch featured here at age 25,and Jake Bugg at age 20.

How ironic a thread that’s title was critical of a performer … is closing in on 150 posts … Was bored so went back 60 pages and then stopped … but this negative titled thread is about the fourth or fifth most commented thread on this forum…

Can we make 200 posts …. Go forum go …

There has to be younger artists such as Jake Bugg at Bluesfest to ensure a younger audience comes through the gate.

It also assists in rebuffing the claims of the likes of Marcus Green[who needs to display his contribution to the world of music promotion],like the odd poster on this forum making unwarranted cynical comments about the achievements of Peter Noble.

James, waffles & spanner

My issue was / is who cares what Football players put on their play list ....

Maybe I over reacted or miss understood ... however in an English market that can mean quite a lot .. and in a general sense it can if some key football players tweet or share ....

Again my experience is some [repeat some not all or even most] music folk or expand that and say some people in the arts tend to see outside their sphere as being unimportant or the people involved not at their level... and often its sporting folk ...

So repeating the issue I cannot agree with is ... who cares what some football players think .... IMO seems very judgemental, and lacks an understanding of how influential some of these people can be.

I also have no great interest in what music, Soccer players have on their IPODS.

Plus Rugby League or Union players and Australian Footballers, for that matter.

or media stars, politicians, film stars, reality tv wannabes, the kardasions-what an indictment the cult of celebrity is on our innate ability to free think. I know what I like and don't like in music and am not interested in the opinions of non musical others.

oh and just for the record and to comply with admins request to keep this thread relevant I have both jake bugg albums on my iPod but they are not on high rotation.I personally have moved on from jake in search of music that is more appealing to my blues oriented tastes not that I would expect anyone on this forum to have the slightest interest in what is on my iPod.

From the Pittsburg Post .... Jake reminds me of, I came up with Jimmie Dale Gilmore..

Tis interesting the boy is getting good reviews ...

Jake Bugg lives up to the hype

http://www.post-gazette.com/ae/music/2014/06/17/Jake-Bugg-lives-up-to-the-hype/stories/201406170047

Jake Bugg has a funny name and kind of a funny voice to go with it.

Having wracked my brain to think of who he reminds me of, I came up with Jimmie Dale Gilmore, with that distinctive squawking style.

Bugg probably never even heard of Gilmore, but you sure can tell he’s heard Bob Dylan, Billy Bragg and Johnny Cash.

Bugg closed the Three Rivers Arts Festival Sunday quite brilliantly, playing for what seemed like four sets of people: screaming girls up front who worshipped his every move, young fans who knew the song “Lightning Bolt” from some streaming service, older fans who heard this “new Dylan”-type buzz and, of course, people who were there because it was free.

The 20-year-old Brit managed to rock them all, rumbling through acoustic rockabilly (“There’s a Beast and We Feed It All”), country-folk balladry (“Me and You”), retro-psych (“Green Man”), ZZ Top-like blues-rock (“Kingpin”) and Stooges punk (“What Doesn’t Kill You”).

Backed by bass and drums, and fresh from Bonnaroo two days before, he did it all with a command well beyond his years, and when you thought you’d seen all his tricks, he unleashed scorching electric guitar solos — nothing too fancy but highly effective.

An extra treat was a howling cover of Neil Young’s “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)” filled the passion of someone who doesn’t look like he’s going to fade away anytime soon.
