I thought I would post a list of alternate artists playing this year who are Definitely worth a listen- a list that does not feature the obvious choices such as Ruthie Foster, BH, John Butler and Lucinda.
here goes
U Blues Band from Singapore
Hacienda - from Texas
Ayo - a real do not miss
Jackson Firebird - are just a knockout
James Hunter - Van Morrison's favourite singer - nuff said
Nu Yorican Nights - the cream of Australia's Latino musicians
Paul Greene
That 1 guy - THE hit of last Woodford fest
Benny Gallagher
Worldfly
State Radio
Jason Lowe -
and of course
Fishbone
anyone want to add any other faves

If they are 'creamier' than Son Veneno then I may have to sacrifice Booker T and the DBT - one of several (at least for me) diabolical clashes
(Fishbone is also a shocker up against The Blind Boys)

Speaking of diabolical clashes - ZPZ and Tinawiren !!
(Yeah I know Tinawiren are also at Mojo on Sat night - but against Eric Bibb and as the lead-up to Ben Harper???? ............. hmmmm, perhaps not ....)

My tip is that Tinariwen will be the hit of the festival- so much so that I've inked in seeing the Talented Mr Harper as well to catch their second set! Don't know how "alternative" they are but they've barely raised a mention here to date!

For those who haven't seen them, Barrelhouse are definitely worth checking out. Lisa Hunt will be amazing on vocals and they have a cool vibe going on. The boys are from Port Macquarie and are doing really well for themselves, do yourself a favour and come have a stomp!

I saw them supporting Ani di Franco at Cassegrain and was favourably surprised. With Lisa Hunt on vocals though...

Ash Grunwald!

Great music here, I've seen him around the Melbourne live scene (the Espy and Corner to name a few) and had so much fun!

I think he plays early on in the day (12 at Mojo on Friday & 1 at Crossroads on Saturday)... Never seen him in a tent, but he sure knows how to rock a venue- I wouldn't miss it :)

Is Seasick Steve alternative? He stole the show last year! Bob Log III is also a must see - total unit!

Totally agree with ZPZ, Tinariwen and Bob Log III, but dont forget the likes of the funky Resin Dogs, CW Stoneking and a bloke that got the whole crowd singing about 7 years ago Luka Bloom. Also dont forget to rock it up with Blues Traveler on Monday. Peace Peoples and bring it on!!!!!!!!!!

James Hunter was good. Very Sam Cooke- ish. Also on a good label, that is producing good music.
