Playing Wellington Feb 22nd & 23rd as part of the Bi-annual arts Festival

When Sharon Jones played Bluesfest, the fact that she had a white band I found difficult to swallow.
It detracted from the performance for me.
Same issue with Charles Bradley.
I would rather have a black band backing a black vocalist.
I suppose that having a white band opens more doors in places that are likely to be racist.

"An artist never really chooses when and where they will play.It is for promoters to make offers. It comes down as to whether tours are financially viable." Quote John Mayall.

Didn't Aretha Franklin have an an all white band for many of her early critical recordings ? I get what you mean ( and I do have issues with cultural appropriation) but place s like Memphis had such a crossflow of musical and other experience...
