Very saddened to hear of the passing of JJ Cale aged 74 of heart attack. A prolific musician whose greatness may have been overshadowed by artists covering his amazing catalogue. Sorry to have missed him live but what a great musical legacy he leaves us. Have a recording of him live in Japan about 10 years old that remains one of my favourite live recordings. Gone but never forgotten.

The album Naturally was the most played cassette that I owned,
he made radio Double J cool, if not giving it it's name.
Requested his presence at Byron a dozen times.

Gotta tell you, baby
It is the end of the line

This is so sad....JJ Cale was proof that less is best - a genius of minimalism, his groove was sublime. He kept it so simple and in the 70's his music was a glorious counter-point to the over-blown pomposity of the times. I doubt very much there will be another quite like him.
RIP

RIP JJ your music lives on!!

When you're lost in the rain in Juarez
And it's Eastertime too
And your gravity fails
And negativity don't pull you through
Don't put on any airs
When you're down on Rue Morgue Avenue
They got some hungry women there
And they really make a mess outta you.

On a summer afternoon nothing else quite compared. RIP JJ.

Trumpet bells ringing
Bass drum is swinging
As the trombone groans
And the big horn moans

That's terrible news. I've been trying to catch up on some mindless paperwork tonight and one of the albums I was listening to through the headphones was 5 and I was really enjoying it. Then I log onto this site and read this. He was on my wish list for Bluesfest as well. Very sad.
