Mr. Bland was honored at the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2012.

Bobby (Blue) Bland, the debonair balladeer whose sophisticated, emotionally fraught performances helped modernize the blues, died on Sunday at his home in Germantown, Tenn., a suburb of Memphis. He was 83.
His death was confirmed by his son, Rodd, who played drums in his band. Though he possessed gifts on a par with his most accomplished peers, Mr. Bland never achieved the popular acclaim enjoyed by contemporaries like Ray Charles and B. B. King. But he was nevertheless a mainstay on the rhythm-and-blues charts and club circuit for decades.

Whoever wrote the obit - I bet you one thing - he was NOT Afro -American.
He was LOVED in that community - and was DEFINITELY on a par with Brother Ray, BB, Solomon,Sam Cooke, Little Milton and the other blues/gospel/southern soul greats
Had HIT record after hit record - his greatest hits Vol 2 is one of the BEST records EVER - Bobby was one of the greats

if you ever get a chance to go to the Stax Museum in Memphis - take a really good look at his stage gearon display - now who would have thought to place coke spoons on his shoes !!

Bobby played Jazzfest in 2011 - the years may have wearied him some - BUT gee the hits kept coming - and his fans adored him on the day.
they are
Farther (on) Up The Road
Turn On your Lovelight
Ain't Nothing You can Do
THE MIGHTY - Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City
My Favourite - I Wouldn't Treat a Dog - The Way You Treated Me
I pity The Fool
Don't Cry No more
and of course

Stormy Monday
and many, many more

His voice was one of the greatest ever

we will miss you Bobby 'Blue ' Bland
