Saw Jo at the Basement in Sydney last night.
Great guitarist.Something to aspire to really. Can really shred and great to see a female player slay a full house.
Must mention the Chase the Sun boys in her band. Also fantastic.
Try not to miss if she is nearby on this tour.

When they go low-we go high.

I was sorry I missed her at BF a couple of years ago; heard she was fantastic. I have seen Chase the Sun twice at BF and been impressed both times. I know this is a big call, but as 3 piece bands go, they are in the league of Cream and Free vis a vis skill and energy and musicianship. A BF moment occurred a couple of years ago when during their set ( and I was obviously smiling in awe and joy), the bloke in front of me turned around and said proudly:"They're from Penrith, you know!!"

if you see marshall okell (marshall & the fro) gigging anywhere,im pretty sure the chase the sun guys will be backing him.

I don't want to hang up my rock n roll shoes
I get a good time feeling every time I hear those blues.

Joanne played Bluesfest last year and was indeed amazing. She played one song with Ray Beadle wich was just astounding. I hope she will be back at Bluesfest soon

I have enjoyed JST both times she played BF. Her Crossroads show last time was marred by her guitar amp sound being inexplicably left out of the FOH mix. Sound guys seemed oblivious, even when Ray came on stage and was twice as loud.

Alas, can't get to see her on this tour - maybe next time.....

It was just announced today that Joanna is touring NZ next week with the Girls on Guitar group.........has this show been through Australia??? I haven't noticed anything.
Different lineup to what I have on CD.......with Joanna included and Danielle Schnebelen (Trampled Underfoot) on Bass (which will be well worth seeing) ...no Cassie Taylor.

This concert is only $22.00..........Geat value.............almost on a par with Bluesfest!!!!!

Sorry Patrick, looks like North Island concerts only??!!

Blues Caravan was on the lineup @ Narooma fest back in 2011. http://www.bluescaravan.de/index.php/en/artists/bc-2011
The lineup for that year was.
Cassie Taylor
Samantha Fish
&
Dani Wilde.
Not sure but they may have been a no show as the tour may have been cancelled.

Thanks Mr Coke,

Can remember the Narooma listing now.
I will give a report on the Auckland concert.
On Sunday the three gals are judging a guitar show organised by the local blues society called 'Guys with Guitars' at a local pub.........should be a hoot..........unfortunately Mrs Johnnymac is away this weekend and me going out to a show like that by myself has disaster written all over it!!

I will keep my energy for the Rails when I can shout you the one I owe you mr Coke!!

Did the Girls with Guitars gig in Auckland last night.
an absolutely abysmal attendance, say 50 folk, did not deter these girls from putting on one of the most energetic and musically adept performances I have seen for some time.

Unfortunately Joanna Shaw Taylor was called home for family reasons but Samantha Fish and Danielle Schnebelen gave a performance that lacked nothing.
From Screaming Jay Hawkins to Tab Benoit, John Lee Hooker to the Mississippi All Stars this was a full on blues set that had the small crowd boogying. A haunting version of I put a spell on you to a Samantha Fish solo of Tab's Cajun Man's Blues, a rocking cigar box guitar version of RL Burnside and finishing on Freddy King's I'm going down, with rip the house down bass work from Danielle, this was an exceptional concert.

These girls would be a hit at Bluesfest.......my first tip for 2104!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

50 is indeed an abysmal size audience for Auckland.
But of course you have all the commuting problems there and once people go home for the day,it is too much of a hassle to go out again.
And Blues is a minority musical field.
After all Derek Trucks only played Powerstation.

Hopefully Watermelon Slim pulls a few more in.
Can't find any tickets on sale to his gigs yet.
Got an email from Leo La Dell's website advising that Mike Frost was visiting from Bris & they were playing the odd show.
Just picked up the King Leo cd for $5 on sale at the local shop.
Great Chicago Blues.
Told them to do one better next time & bring Mojo Webb over for a visit.
They enjoyed him in the Qtown bars last time he was here.
I hope Leo & the couple of other American musicans living in Dunedin spread the word around about Watermelon.

"An artist never really chooses when and where they will play.It is for promoters to make offers. It comes down as to whether tours are financially viable." Quote John Mayall.

I only found out about Watermelon Slim at the Girls on Guitars concert.
Evidently he is playing the Riverhead Tavern on a Sunday which is a top venue...possibly not for viewing but a great environment.

I think the biggest problem with GwG was a lack of a promoter. I found out through the Auckland Blues Club a couple of days before.......nothing in the papers or other media.
The only poster I saw was inside the venue on the night!!!
Of the 50, 8 were my mob!!
Shame, as it really was a very good night and two excellent sets.

Hi Bob,
I'm sure you would have made it 51 if you had known about it!!
Try for Watermelon Slim at the Riverhead Tavern on the 28th April.
Not quite as nice to look at!!!!......... but solo he is great.
His solo Sunday 12 noon set at Bluesfest was really memorable.

Thanks John. I'll be down the Vector a couple nights this week. Steve Miller, Carlos Santana and Neil Young.
