Finally dragged myself down to South Restaurant on the North Shore of Sydney and just have to post it here for all of you that live in Sydney and for anyone who might be visiting town this year. This tiny place cooks traditional New Orleans dishes and plays some of the best blues and soul music you will hear in Sydney. Enjoy it before all the good reviews ruin it!

And the big horn moans

Heading out for the East Coast / Lord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through, / Tangled up in blues.

Also on the North side is that place on the corner of the Pacific Highway in Crows Nest (can't remember name...GB?). They do a fabulous bean dish, N'orleans style...

Buddy Guy is without doubt the best guitar player alive.......the way he plays is beyond anyone. Amen

The New Orleans Cafe is a bit of a north shore institution - but more influenced by southern style cooking than a purely traditional place. Many a late afternoon lunch spent with their house beer.

I was in Sydney over the weekend and tried to get a last minute table after reading this thread, I was turned down and told if I wanted a table at the weekend I would need to book at least a week in advance. Clearly they are doing very well and the bloke I spoke to was very helpful and enthusiastic, maybe next time. Bring on the Zydeco...

Sorry to hear BuWho2. It is a pretty small place so it don't take many bodies to fill up. I also found the service doesn't rush, so they really only get two sittings a night. Hopefully next time!

I tried to get in there last night too. Thought calling at midday on a Tuesday for that evening would be alright.

Naw, fully booked!

That's a pretty good marketing tool - gimme gimme gimme!!!
