For any bluesfesterers who haven't seen it yet, this is well worth a look (as long as you've got plenty of time).

Ah Albert....The godfather of my son Otis....there are so many stories about him - maybe the best one was after he died - three different women showed up to claim his things - ALL thinking they were his No1.
Little Jimmy King - got there first and saved those amazing guitars.
It was a mystery how he tuned his guitar - and NO ONE attacked the strings like Albert did.
Lot's of people were in absolute terror when Albert got on to them - he could scare the hell out of anyone.
I went to Memphis to see him one time - and there was a Church of God in Christ convetntion in town - amd nearlty all of the hotel/motels were booked up - I called Albert to say I was there - and when he asked where I was - and I told him - he said - 'Don't leave your room' I'll be straight there - Well a couple of hours later - he showed up - wearing his Memphis sherriff badge - and whatever he told those hotel front desk people - they didn't even allow the cleaners in to my room while I stayed there.
like I said - Albert could frighten the bejesus out of anyone.
Don't know why - for me - we just clicked.
Albert WAS one of the greats.
Thanks for the memories

and thanks to you too Waffles. I can understand why this is one of your favourite clips.

There have been some great things come out of the computer age but surely youTube must be the best. A few months back I spent a night just looking at Stevie Ray clips. And the other day I got hold of a song by the Chocolate Watch Band (english version), Requiem, that I hadn't heard since I was a kid.

I had the pleasure of seeing Mr King at the Palais in Newcastle, would it have been early 1991?

Contrary to my usual practice at the time, I minimised my imbibing lest I miss something important.

A local band opened for him (and maybe Canned Heat as well?). They were big Albert fans and I imagine pretty excited.

The story goes that Albert's deal stipulated that his hotel should be within walking distance from the venue, but he was to be driven to and from.

At the end of soundcheck it became apparent that Albert's lift was not arriving, so one of the local support band volunteered to give Albert a lift.
The hotel was on the next block and literally 100m from the gig. Literally. It would have taken about one minute to walk back, versus the five minute drive around the block and back to the hotel.

Albert insisted that he was driven back to his hotel regardless. So the local guy has
Albert propped up in the front of his bedford, telling him how much they 'had stacks of his albums and enjoy his music Mr King' etc etc.

Albert's simple reply was "yeah rave boy, rave". End of conversation.

I had a virtual religious experience that night and the whole thing was a blur. Another friend gave the same report.
