Hi,
The E blast containing Bluesfest's first artists announcement is on it's way to your inbox
They start going out around 8pm tonight (Wednesday) - and take around 3-4 hours to send to all 97,000 members.
The website is due to go live at 12.01am tonight vwith our artist announcement and playing schedule.
We sincerely hope you like the announcement, and look forward to your feedback.
Please remember this is the first of at least 4 - and probably more artists announcements.

Thanks

It is currently 8.44pm in Sydney & Canberra but 8.14pm in Broken Hill.
NZ time is 10.44pm.
So some locals will have already received the news.
Website release time is 2.01am NZ.
I think I will wait till morning.

Haven't got the email yet, but found this online

BEN HARPER and Santana top the bill in the first announcement of artists to play the 2013 Byron Bay Bluesfest.

Chris Isaak, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Steve Miller, Bonnie Raitt and Wilco are the other big names booked for the festival. It's a broad range - from Iggy's in-your-face godfather of punk routine; Isaak's cool guitar mistrelsy; Wilco's ultra-hip Americana-influenced rock and Raitt's torch-song Nashville country - and fulfils director Peter Noble's promise that the line-up would be "red hot sizzling and full of surprises".

The announcement is earlier than usual because of the "extraordinary" list of performers on offer this year, Mr Noble said.

Ben Harper is no stranger to the Bluesfest crowd, having played in 2011 and 2009, and he has a loyal following in the Byron shire and beyond.

Santana were huge in the '60s and their song Black Magic Woman has become a classic.

Guitar maestro Carlos Santana has morphed from his first Latin-funk outings, through Eastern mysticism, playing with the likes of John McLaughlin's band the Mahavishnu Orchestra, and has returned to popularity with recent recordings.

His last album was entirely instrumental.

Iggy's appearance should galvanise the crowd.

Now back with the Stooges and in his mid-60s somewhat more sedate than in the self-lacerating wild days, he is nevertheless guaranteed to get his shirt off and may even do a bit of stage diving. He had sworn off the habit, but even a couple of years ago was still giving himself up to the adoring mob, something that inevitably ended in his shedding blood.

Also listed in the first announcement are the Dropkick Murphys, Glen Hansard with the Frames and the Tedeschi Trucks Band, who proved very popular last year with their big guitar sound.

Mr Noble reckons he's truly outdone himself for the 2013 festival.

"The artists who have confirmed their appearances have surpassed my wildest dreams - almost everyone who we have offered to come has said yes," he said.

Ticket prices will increase from today, "due to the magnitude of talent performing at Bluesfest 2013", Mr Noble said. There will be further price increases with each of the three artist announcements in coming weeks.

"Please understand that we simply cannot bring you the great artists without raising the prices," he said.

A five-day pass is currently $405. Bluesfest is at the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm from Thursday, March 28, to Monday, April 1.

Iggy, Chris Isaak and Wilco are the big three for me.
Santana will be excellent and it will be interesting to compare with EWF.
My travelling colleague has been predicting that Ben Harper will be back.

I'm with you as far as my 3 faves Patrick. Iggy alone makes it worth it for me.

Good start Bluesfest - sets the bar high for the remaining announcements

I hope Wilco play a longer set this time.
I was over watching the Blues Foundation, and decided on a whim to go and have a look at them, never having heard any of their music.
I instantly knew I was watching something real special.

Just received the email, I wasn't going to mention who's playing so as not to spoil it for those who haven't received the email yet, but it's already out there!

Wow, Thank you Bluesfest, what a great first announcement. Santana and Iggy, well done for booking both of them. The rest are also excellent.

Well done Bluesfest,....................................... build up matches the release!!!!!
After years of hounding you for Carlos and Steve Miller great to see you have finally secured them........Wilco, Bonnie, Ben, Iggy, Tedeshi/trucks........yahoo..... and also Grace Potter whom I have several albums of and have always wanted to see live!!

As always...some exciting new names which get me going as much as the headliners. Traditionally these artists leave me stunned with their originality and talents and this group will no doubt do the same.

:d/ Great 1st announcement :d/

My picks from the 1st lot would be Santana, saw him last year the legend is still way cool, Dropkick Murphys, can they match The Pogues effort from last year? Me thinks so! Steve Miller, Wilco, Bonny Raitt, Tedeschi Trucks & Iggy.

Applause Well done Bluesfest Team, well done Applause
