8:30pm Tuesday, September 11 2012 ABC1 And then on IView I would think Rick Stein Tastes the Blues Synopsis
Chef Rick Stein combines two of his favourite passions in this evocative celebration of the music and food of the American Deep South.
Rick has loved blues music since he first encountered it in the early 1960s. Now he goes on a fascinating journey through the Mississippi Delta - the birthplace of the blues - seeking out his favourite music as well as the food that is ingrained in its heritage.
Rick comes across a host of characters and communities who help to paint a colourful picture of Delta life and 'down home' cooking. He pays homage to the musicians who created the blues as he celebrates the tastes and smells that have been associated with it for nearly a century.
Showcasing authentic soul food dishes from classic songs that still stand the test of time today, Rick discovers that the Mississippi is known locally as The Strong Brown God (the one that always wins) and, without it, there'd be no cotton, no slaves and no blues.
Rick bases himself near the town of Clarkesdale - the epicentre of the Delta Blues - in the famous Shack Up Inn. It used to be an old cotton gin where cotton was cleaned, chopped and packed on a plantation but now it's a rusty, rickety old hotel full of blues enthusiasts - the perfect place to embark on a blues journey of a lifetime. Heading out for the East Coast / Lord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through, / Tangled up in blues.

Interesting show great music. Missed the end bit but recorded so will watch tonight. I loved the quote from the woman who said they had a "Nap Culture" don't ring or drive down the road between 12 & 2pm. Gotta love anywhere that has a nanna nap or Siesta.
