Having now reached the lofty status of a pensioner, my journey to Bluesfest this year is not going to be a flight into Coolangatta from NZ the night before, but a casual stroll down by campervan from Cairns over 13 days.

Obviously I don't want to be eating in surf clubs everynight, so would appreciate someone advising of any publications that I should be looking at that may give an insight into any music that is going down in Northern Queensland over this period?

This would allow me to arrive at Bluefest slightly more recharged and mellow than normal and hopefully our lot will not make such an impact on the takings at The Rails that first night!!!!

I get a good time feeling every time I hear those blues.

As you near the queensland border pull into Eumundi bout hour nth of Brissy and check out the pub Joes waterhole .Its on the beaten track and they have a good mix of muscos including big o/s acts playin all year round. Big van park in town with a very laid back atmosphere. We spent a few days there. Would recommend driving straight through mining mad Mackay, its completey gone bezerk and expect crazy inflated prices for everything. Agnes Water just south of Gladstone is a nice small town lots of good local musos and heaps friendly worth a stop over. Good tucker too! Hope this helps ya !!

Thanks Guys.....will give them all a shot. Really looking forward to the experience.

haven't really got an itinerary outside of arriving at Byron 12 days later, just stopping where we feel like!!

No doubt lots of fun will be had, and a little music on the way will be icing on the cake.

I was thinking you were looking pretty well charged & mellow after arriving last year (:
What day will you be getting to Byron this year johnnymac?
Looks like i may get to town sometime around 7 or 8 pm wed after the airline changed my flight times.
I'm hopeing to still make it to the rails just after 8pm for a drink or 2 & hear a few tunes.

Dear Mr Coke Bloke,

I arrive in town about 3PM Wednesday and although much later than normal the procedure will be the same.

One round in the public bar of the Great Northern, a pie from across the road, sort out my accomodation, and should be in the Rails by 7PM.
As always, looking forward to catching up............hightail it down there once you are in town!!!! Hopefully the Mojo Bluesmen or Marshall will be holding court????

Young Bill...........Thursday is normally a midday at the Rails sort of thing (that coincides with Rick and his lot turning up from Sydney)..........can't help with the info on the buses though.......don't know when the service starts.

There are three of us coming this time.
The new recruit asked if we were going to Nimbin.
The answer is of course we always take a scenic drive out from Murwullimbah on the Wednesday as there is an excellent all day breakfast to be served.
Inevitably there are philosophers at the next table.
The art gallery always has something interesting to purchase.
Then drive back through Lismore to visit the music shops on the way back.
Unfortunately the entrepeneur who was setting up the studio/theatre in the old Nimbin Dairy Factory seems to have fallen on hard times.

Mr Coke,
It is the smell that goes with that bubbling mud!!!!!!!!!!...........nothing but clear blue skies and 31 Plus degrees for the last six days.............certainly Auckland would need to be on fire for us to have this sort of heat.

Have had a musicall potpourri al the way down but mainly Bluesfest 2012 artists!!!

Catch ya soon.

Not a good start.
Arrived at Dunedin airport this afternoon and checked in.
Was checking through my bag afterwards and thought the passport looked a little new.
The photo showed that it was in fact my son's passport.
Good enough to fool Virgin Air but probably not security.
So no plane trip and forfeiture of cheap airfare.
Meant purchase of much more expensive airfare via AirNZ CHCH tomorrow.
Rental car will not be picked up this evening.
Travelling companion was in airport liquor store and met friendly Aussie bloke with similar interest in liquor who will be travelling to Gold Coast from Brisbane so it should all slot together.
