Hubby and I are taking 2 weeks off for Bluesfest this year and turning it into a leisurely roadtrip from Melbourne and with 47 sleeps to go until we head off (but who's counting lol) I'm turning my thoughts to the soundtrack to said roadtrip...

So love to hear everyone's favourite tracks - specifically from artists performing at Bluesfest 2012 - that should make it onto my BF Roadtrip "Mixed Tape" (in reality it will be an iPod mix but doesn't have the same ring to it lol) to keep us groving the 1700km to Bluesfest...

Well, I would recommend "Road Songs" by the Derek Trucks band. Performed last year, but title sounds appropriate, and it's an awesome live album.

Awesome :D Keep 'em coming :) I think my iTunes account is about to take a beating lol

Going to be on the road for 4 days up and 5 days back so going to need LOADS of tunes!
My tastes are pretty ecclectic at the best of times, but excited to find some challenges and treasures from other Bluesfesters :D

albums road tested in the hike up from melbourne over many, many trips north to byron -

time the revelator - gillian welch, perfect for the long stretches in outbook nsw if you go inland
car wheels on a gravel road - lucinda williams - see above
surfin - ernest ranglin - for the coastal routes
ozomatli (1998) - ozomatli, get the party started
welcome to the cruel world/fight for your mind - ben harper, not sure it got any more sublime than the early discs, if you feel inclined to be reclined and burn one down on the way up
nearly anything compilation you can get your hands on featuring john lee hooker, cos there can be only one
kaya - bob marley - melllllllllow
david holmes - '97 mix tape - check out the tunes on this mix from the iconic dj - http://www.rhythm22.com/2010/04/audio-david-holmes-essential-mix-of-the-year-1997/

I've always found Chain's album "Towards the blues" to be an awesome Driving album

When you're lost in the rain in Juarez
And it's Eastertime too
And your gravity fails
And negativity don't pull you through
Don't put on any airs
When you're down on Rue Morgue Avenue
They got some hungry women there
And they really make a mess outta you.

"An artist never really chooses when and where they will play.It is for promoters to make offers. It comes down as to whether tours are financially viable." Quote John Mayall.
