Looks like a bit of a guitar slinger festival with the likes of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang
John Fogerty was excellent last time one of the best acts I have ever seen at Bluesfest, not sure why the ?? from skot20 58.
Be also great to see Brian Setzer & the Pogues as well as returning Steve Earle.

Interesting, he is listed on Mess&Noise website which linked to the Rhythms mag site, which doesn't list him. A bit dissapointing but plenty of others to be excited about.

Guitar slinging hell. Thought as much,no Stranger Cole with King Tide.Oh well maybe next year after all our ears have stopped ringing from all those guitar players shoving their appendages in our ears. See you in the mud.

How ya all,

Back on line after todays announcement. Too busy to worry about things for a few months but with this announcement I will be viewing regularly again.
As normal, socks knocked off with the first line up. Well done Peter, and congrats for keeping things under wraps so well.........As I say..buy early, you will never be disappointed and this has been proved again.
Rick must have rung me within seconds of it going on line...we are an obsessive mob!!!!
Everything so far has a big tick.....and the likes of Buddy, the Jayhawks and the Earles thrill me........And how Greybeard pulls the rabbit out of the hat with the Fabulous Thunderbirds is beyond me..........not the icing on the cake, Bingo............this is a whole new Zealand pavlova!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See ya Easter...............Bring it on!!!!!!!!

Yep, well done team. Again.

Obviously a strong tendency towards guitar, which I think harks back to the earlier days of the festival. A great mix of classy performers across different genres. I hope the headliners are strong enough "names" to mean strong ticket sales, but honestly, that list is strong top to bottom. Plenty to fuel discussion on the board for the next while.

Just checking the first line up out. Looks alright but slightly underwhelming. I hope the future announcements add quality, particularly female artists which has been a festival weakness in the past. Am rapt Trombone Shorty is back - the highlight of 2011 and the genuine contemporary superstar of the lineup so far.

Totally agree. An excellent lineup so far. Something for everyone except those with rocksteady in their head.

Great to see Johnny Lang making a reappearance after a decade. I think he's gonna leave more than a few people gobsmacked. Bob, if you're going next year I think you'll finally get to see someone who's gonna rock your socks off :)

setzer, maceo, pogues, and jayhawks - sensational

if earth, wind and fire give the schmaltz a miss, they could be hilarious - bring the disco on - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msgCzbUDjEo

would be great before maceo parker.

I don't want to hang up my rock n roll shoes

Like your thinking, Wafflemeister. Time to bring back the Sat arvo disco gig at Bluesfest. Memories of the Karl Denson/ Roy Ayers shows back to back at Belongil linger on....

waffels I searched an online dictionary & found this meaning for lame-Weak and ineffectual; unsatisfactory so I suggest we all wear the lamest suits possible.

Actually Earth Wind & Fire started out as a funk band & went through many incarnations but are unfortunatley are remembered for their disco era songs. I think they may be worth catching for the funk.
