As we all know those in the music biz have taken bits & pieces from other artists work to create original music but at times it's not only close to sampling but nearly stealing.

A few examples i've found on the net.

Led Zeppelin
A list of some of the songs Zep stole from other artists:
"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" - A folk song by Anne Bredon, this was originally credited as "traditional, arranged by Jimmy Page," then "words and music by Jimmy Page," and then, following legal action, "Bredon/Page/Plant."
"Black Mountain Side" - uncredited version of a traditional folk tune previously recorded by Bert Jansch.
"Bring It On Home" - the first section is an uncredited cover of the Willie Dixon tune (as performed by the imposter Sonny Boy Williamson).
"Communication Breakdown" - apparently derived from Eddie Cochran's "Nervous Breakdown."
"Custard Pie" - uncredited cover of Bukka White's "Shake 'Em On Down," with lyrics from Sleepy John Estes's "Drop Down Daddy."
"Dazed And Confused" - uncredited cover of the Jake Holmes song . http://culturecatch.com/music/jake-holmes-dangerous-times
"Hats Off To (Roy) Harper" - uncredited version of Bukka White's "Shake 'Em On Down."
"How Many More Times" - Part one is an uncredited cover of the Howlin' Wolf song (available on numerous compilations). Part two is an uncredited cover of Albert King's "The Hunter."
"In My Time Of Dying" - uncredited cover of the traditional song (as heard on Bob Dylan's debut).
"The Lemon Song" - uncredited cover of Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor" - Wolf's publisher sued Zeppelin in the early 70s and settled out of court.
"Moby Dick" - written and first recorded by Sleepy John Estes under the title "The Girl I Love," and later covered by Bobby Parker.
"Nobody's Fault But Mine" - uncredited cover of the Blind Willie Johnson blues.
"Since I've Been Lovin' You" - lyrics are the same as Moby Grape's "Never," though the music isn't similar.
"Stairway To Heaven" - the main guitar line is apparently from "Taurus" by Spirit.
"White Summer" - uncredited cover of Davey Graham's "She Moved Through The Fair."
"Whole Lotta Love" - lyrics are from the Willie Dixon blues "You Need Love."

Even the begining of Trampled Underfoot sounds like Stevie Wonders Superstition only faster.

A clip of some of the bands songs & the originals that gave them "insperation"

Another interesting comparison.
Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water

Astrud Gilberto - Maria Quiet

Dont get me wrong i like the bands & the tunes & i realise that music would have stagnated to the point of us still listening to 2 sticks being banged together if musos did not inspire each other but i found the topic interesting.
any other examples?

They got the cocaine, oxycontin, mushrooms, marijuana
Vodka, plastic pop-off, twist one off
Yesterday I smoked, today I don't
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Pearl Jam basically lifted "Going to California" from Zeppelin. At least the verses. Shame that didn't make the Zeppelin list above Coke, it would have gotten a little run going.

Nirvana lifted the bass riff for "Come as You Are" from Killing Joke's "1981"

The Flaming Lips now pay 75% of the publishing for "Fight Test" to Cat Stevens, for sailing a little too close to the wind when taking inspiration from his "Father and Son"

And lovable old Jet decided that the opening of Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" would sound pretty good on the front end of "Are You Gonna Be My Girl"

But let's not forget that dastardly Colin Hay and Men at Work, pinching "Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree".....well, according to a judge.

So, not exactly as extensive as the "borrowing" that you've tracked down with Zeppelin, but no doubt along the same lines.

Can not blame The Zeppelin too much, many blues song are incorrectly attributed
And please elaborate on
Quote:
(as performed by the imposter Sonny Boy Williamson).

Of course some performers steal one set of lyrics and belt them into fitting someone else's music

Heading out for the East Coast / Lord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through, / Tangled up in blues.

I thought i clarified my not blameing Led Zep in my last few lines.
As for Sonny Boy well at first i was under the false impression he was a kiwi footy player come boxer but after some research it seems i was wrong - but not wrong by nameing him the imposter.
Check this out - some info about Mr. Aleck Rice Miller AKA Sonny Boy Williamson Number Two http://www.spinner.com/2007/07/20/twisted-tales-fake-sonny-boy-williamson-becomes-a-blues-star/
