Anyone been to wintersun?

This it's year at port macquarie, I'm thinking of making the run north to see Deke Dickerson.

Can anyone report on this show Mr Dickerson himself? I've missed his previous visits here.

i have it on reasonably good authority that wintersun wont be in port macquarie next year. maybe coolangattas alternative-cooly rocks on-will take off.but they have more cars entered this year than at last years wintersun.

I don't want to hang up my rock n roll shoes
I get a good time feeling every time I hear those blues.

Deke's great! I saw at the Ponderosa Stomp a few years back and in Melbourne maybe 2 years ago. Definitely worth seeing.

I have enjoyed playing the 5 DVDS and 7 CDS which I purchased from Deke at Greazefest 2010 and had personally autographed by he and Chris Sprague his drummer.

Pity he could not fit much on the plane because I got in quick as soon I saw the merchandise laid out on the table and bought one of everything, while those watching him play missed out.

Deke like Clapton,is an ambassador in the music world he operates in.

Very friendly guy who gives himself no airs.

Such a versatile musican.

Excellent, thanks. The ice box is cooling and raring to go.

Looks like the cooly may have some good music if not a good name. Bummer.

I also saw on the wintersun site a mention of wintersun mildura - now that'd be toasty right about now!

Why did Wintersun shift south ?

I have looked at the line up for Cooly Rocks On,and apart from Deke,Marti Brom,Pat Capocci,Straight 8's ,the lineup at Cooly Rocks On seems more impressive..

A few years ago there was an Aussie lady doing a theatre show based on weird album covers.

If you had any depth of knowledge of music, her selection was orthodox.

Deke Dickerson with his musical knowledge, presents the best list I have yet seen.

If you can't get a chuckle out of this.......

Just received the DVD 7th Annual Deke's Guitar Geek Festival 2010.

Features an appearance from 94 year old delta blues musican HoneyBoy Edwards, who was there the night Robert Johnson was poisoned.

To illustrate Deke's versatility, there is a 5 song tribute to Johnny Ramone.

I only had time over lunch to watch "Blitzkrieg Bop",featuring on vocals the guy who does the voice of Spongebob Squarepants.

Riveting stuff.

Jeremy Wakefield of Wayne the Train and Dave Berzansky of the Hacienda Brothers are the pedal steel players on these DVDs.

The last segment I note is a 7 track appearance by Duane Eddy.

So Honeyboy must have been 95 years of age.
In amazing shape at 94.
But I never would have expected him to hop on a plane and come down to Bluesfest.
Too stressful too fly so far when you are in your nineties.
How was Wintersun Bill ?
Did you get there in the end ?

Indeed I did. It was not really sunny as it turned out.

A few hours before I was due to leave my boss did me the pleasure of informing me and several of my colleagues that we were being made redundant, which was nice timing from him on the eve of a long weekend. Thanks Nats!

It was pretty much a washout for me, arriving late in the teeming rain. There had been a flood warning the day before which was nice as it turned out I was camped next to some type of river.

I did get a bit over excited when I scanned the program to see Nick Curran listed, but he didn't make it as it turned out.

The venue was the current club blend of airport and shopping centre - good to see they put some thought into it.

Deke was flamboyant, mostly a dancing crowd. I left the next day due to the crap weather and crap work news.

There might have been another (more recent) thread for Deke Dickerson, but I couldn't find it.

Anyway, only reviving it because it looks like I'll make it along tomorrow night to see him in Sydney. Might go to Jon Cleary yet, but Jon in about $10 more, and I've never seen Deke. Anybody care to argue it one way or another for me?

The classic educational comment by Frank Gonzalez deserves to be included as a question in your local quiz night.

There are too many serious Johnny Ramone fans out there.
