The great man of New Orleans blues, the human jukebox and one time guitarist for Proefessor Longhair, has passed away. This is just terrible. He'd been sick, but a place was reserved for him on the jazzfest bill just in case he could play, but now he's gone. OMG there's gonna be a second line. Sad sad day for music.....RIP

Keep 'em coming bindoggy!

Here's a great little anecdote from the jazzfest chatroom:

So sad ....

So glad I made it to see his set @ Fest last year.

I'm sure John B. will honor him appropriately now & at Fest time. My favorite Snooks story @ RnB:

In between songs, he stops and apologizes in advance for his language. To paraphrase "Turn off your efuceekaying cell phones and stop stealing my music. If you want my efuceekaying music, buy it." The looks on people's faces as they closed their phones were priceless. You could see "He's blind, how does he know" look on their faces.

Love it!!

I'm glad I was lucky enough to see Snooks play on at least a couple of occasions at the Rock'n'Bowl, his home away from home. One relatively quiet night was memorable for his famous crankiness: "That vent's blowin' on me and I'm cold! Turn the damn thing off!" "Y'all stop taking my picture! I'm not in the mood!" (Like the mobile phone punters, we were asking ourselves "How did he know his picture was being taken???) The music was good that night, but we always remembered his feisty and cantankerous attitude with a certain fondness.

The other night I remember seeing him there was much more crowded, during Jazzfest time. Snooks was in a fabulous mood that night and had the crowd eating out of his hands, which were doing their lightning fast thing, playing that guitar like a fiend, sometimes even performing two separate guitar parts at once.

I was looking forward to seeing him once again this year at Jazzfest. He will be sorely missed. Farewell, Snooks, show 'em how it's done up there! That band up in heaven just keeps getting better & better!
