can anyone tell me how his gig was

I have been requesting him for 5 years now, and low & behold they put him on a tuesday, after i bought my 5 day pass
- also all his other gigs in sydney etc... were on when the fest was, so no opportunity at all to see him.

just remember what a fine keyboard guy he was, also loved his vocal drawl. alway surrounded by great musos & wonderful backup singers.

what sort of band did he have.

paddle faster, I hear banjo music ........

The learned Graham Reid's review of a longer gig, sums up what we saw at Bluesfest, better than any description I could give.

I sacrificed a second look at Joe Louis Walker to catch the legendary Leon Russell.

I was mighty glad I did spend the time to listen to this unassuming country lad.

Chance of a lifetime.

A lady of at least my own age sat next to me on the seating platform, and we exchanged pleasantries.

She looked the Leon Russell fan type.

After three songs, she asked me which one Leon Russell was.

I told her he was the bloke with the long white hair who filled both screens.

One song later she left the tent, never to return.

I live in a country town and deal with country people.

They like straight talk.

As with Bob Dylan and BB King,I suspect there are a number of people who attend a gig because it is "trendy".

I thought he was great. Love the voice, love the piano playing.

I thought it was unfortunate he was stuck playing on a tacky little midi keyboard -- saw him in the US last year bashing away on a grand piano (with Elton John) and it's far more dignified. Surely there was one somewhere backstage that the festival had rented? I know John Legend had one...

I bought a Tuesday ticket to basically see Leon and every cent was well spent. It was everything I hoped for although a longer show would have been great.

I thought he was great and his band top notch. Chris Simmons' blues solo was terrific too except for the idiots who felt a need to whistle through it. I didn't pay to hear you, you idiots, so STFU next time.

He usually tours playing only an electronic keyboard so seeing that wasn't really a surprise.

And to the lady mentioned above who left after two songs - your loss!!

Would drop everything to see Mad Dogs and Englishmen revival - major highlight for me this year was Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi and band singing Space Captain on both nights - I have not been able to get their voices singing"learning to live together" out of my head-BRILLIANT!

You won't see this because they had a falling out at the time and the relationship has not been repaired.
