My first and last Bluesfest. Not for serious music followers. Too hard to see the artists from any decent distance. Who wants to stand in an over crowded tent? Have to be really desperate to do that for 5 days or have never had better experiences. Also too many non-blues acts.

2011 was my 2nd Bluesfest. Last year was great (esp. Joe Bonamassa and Jeff Beck).
This year was unfortunately way overcrowded - but I was prepared to put up with that to witness BB King and the Blind Boys!
Hopefully next year will be diva-free (ie. Grace Jones, Dylan, etc) with a re-focus on blues acts in their prime (eg. Eric Bibb was awesome ...) and newcomers with attitude (I nearly choked jumping with Fishbone ....).

Oh yes I think most of it is seriously good music and I seriously like to get up close and engage with it. What's funny - funny weird, not funny ha ha - is how people are prepared to be sucked into paying heaps of money when you only get to see the major artists from far away and in pretty grungy conditions. The organisers are laughing all the way to the bank.

I think I have to be a fun music lover to put up with wet feet, sore arse and a hangover for 5 days to hear the best music available on the planet. Thanks Peter for all your efforts over the 22 years you really delivered.

Perhaps in absolute terms it is, but when averaged over the quantity of music at the festival.......$300 pre-early bird for 2011. Thursday through Monday, the festival is approximately 56 hours of live music on display. Cheaper per hour than a ticket to a local band at a local pub. Of course with the other expenses to consider, it is a big outlay, but I think it should still be considered good value.

I relate to those saying that overcrowding detracted from their experience. I guess these things can be a victim of their own success. I've probably been lucky in the past to have previously caught many of the bigger names, so I haven't felt like I've been missing as much if I've opted for a smaller stage later in the evening.

Jones was ok But the Fest was stolen by that one legged flautist Ian Anderson he showed energy and was as entertaining as all hell. The five minutes I saw of Dylan was less than ordinary. Buffy however was also great give me more of her tribal music anyday
