Ben Harper and his rocking new band RELENTLESS 7 will be doing a one-off show at the Sydney Metro, Thursday April 9, warming up for their headline appearances at the East Coast Blues & Roots Festival.

Tickets for this opportunity to see Ben Harper & RELENTLESS 7 in a rare club show are sure to sell out.

NOTE: there is a 2 ticket limit per purchase

Debuting the RELENTLESS 7 to the world on the Swing State Voter Awareness Tour with the Beastie Boys, the 4 piece - comprising Harper, Jason Mozersky on lead guitar, Jordan Richardson on drums and Jesse Ingalls on Bass/Keys - have been putting final touches on their first album together, White Lies For Dark Times, due for release through EMI first week of April.

The three Texan musicians became firm friends of Harper during the recording of “Both Sides of the Gun” in 2005, and have developed into a band with infectious guitars and a serious groove.

The band is scheduled to tour extensively round the world in 2009.

Don’t miss your chance to catch the compelling brand of new American rock that is the essence of Ben Harper and his new associates RELENTLESS 7.

I saw that one, and I thought it was interesting given that it was billed that the Bluesfest was his only gigs. But given that the Metro has about a 1,500 capacity, it's not as if everyone who wants to see the band will be able to in Sydney.

Good intimate setting for die hard fans. Pretty rare to see him in a venue of that size nowadays I'd have thought.

From last Friday's email about the guest programming: "A reminder that Ben Harper's new band BEN HARPER and RELENTLESS7 is appearing exclusively twice at Bluesfest, there will be no other Ben Harper Australian festival or theatre appearances. "

Given that this show has to have been in the works since well before this email went out on Friday, it's interesting that they'd still pursue it as a selling point for the festival. Gotta feel bad for any Sydney Harper fans that decided to make the trek up based on this oft-repeated claim.

That said, 60 bucks for a Ben Harper show is pretty much unheard of... even if the new material naturally isn't up to the standard of an Innocent Criminals show with 15 years of albums to work from.
