I'm making some headway through the small truckload of cd's purchased in New Orleans and I want to give a big shout out to the triple cd by trumpet player Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah. You can buy each separately if you prefer (Ruler Rebel; Diaspora; The Emancipation Procrastination) or get the whole package. This isn't jazz, it's a whole new music (in the words of Nicholas Peyton, jazz is dead) and is mind-bogglingly amazing. This young musician's talent was utterly wasted in the Miles Davis tribute band that played fest not so long ago.

I will certainly be checking Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah out on Deezer. I loved seeing him with the Miles Electric Band.
I've been listening to Marcus Miller's new album 'Laid Black'. Great for jazz funkaholics. Some very tasty bass playing. I'm not sure if he has ever played at Bluesfest, but would be a great addition to 2019.

Davell Crawford's Piano In The Vaults Vol 1 is also fabulous and Preservation Hall's So It Is is ridiculously good. Oh...and of course Erica, plus her live set with Galactic from fest is definitely worth the download. More to come...:)

Two more from the New Orleans catalogue:
Cyril Neville - Endangered Species: The Essential Recordings. This is absolutely fantastic! You will feel in the heart of the city in the middle of a second line parade. Cyril is still right at the top of his game and should be an essential presence at bluesfest next year.
Cha Wa - Spyboy. Their set at jazzfest was fabulous and this Cd with Monk Boudreaux's grandson Spyboy J'wan Boudreaux on vocals is a gem. Monk also helps out and it is a wonderful mix of old and new hyper-funky Indians music. Also a perfect fit for bluesfest.
More to come.....

Sonny Landreth - double CD Live in Lafayette, one acoustic, one electric. Both are very good but the acoustic set in particular is fantastic.
Zachary Richard - Gombo. The latest from this cajun legend. A fabulous CD sung in French and English. He would be very welcome at bluesfest.
Honey Island Swamp Band - Demolition Day. Carrying the flame for southern rock better than anyone else. Also very welcome at bluesfest.
Nicholas Payton - Afro-Caribbean Mixtape. Hehehehe...it doesn't get much more radical. I love this music, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.
Samantha Fish - Belle of The West. I sure hope she's on the invitation list for next year!
Mia Borders - Live recording of her performance at jazzfest this year. This set was so good I didn't hesitate to go and see her at The Balcony Room on the same night. She should be invited soon!
Meschiya Lake and The Little Big Horns- Bad Kids Club. A heap of fun. She is just great live!! Should be invited to bluesfest, if not next year then the year after.
Lakou Mizik - Wa Di Yo. Wonderful Haitian grooves. They made for a great double after having seen Erica Falls earlier in the night.

JJ Cale will only be attending in spirit, literally. Would be nice to have seen him though.

I'm listening a real lot to Zachary Richard, especially his latest cd, Gombo (Gumbo). Singing mainly in French but also some English, he is an incredible writer, poet and singer who pulls around him a crack band of the cream of Louisiana (i.e. the best) musicians. I have ranted many times about bluesfest's failure to showcase cajun music in its 29 year history, but here is an opportunity to put it right with an absolute legend of cajun French music and obscure Americana. He is relatively unknown outside of Louisiana but the equal of any of the major Americana stars to have appeared in bluesfest's history. How about it Peter Noble? Really, does it get any better than this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRMY_Llzd-I

Zachary is described as a Cajun/Zydeco performer & from the title,it would appear that this clip is Zydeco. Love the colour & uplifting feel. Dance music is always popular. In that field,I also would be very happy to see Rosie Ledet back.

Interesting how a number of Australian early 80's bands have reformed and are doing live shows again after 30 years. Is it just Baby Boomer nostalgia, or rock making a much needed and welcome return to 21st Century listening.

Currently listening to the latest Father John Misty album "God's Favourite Customer" , he never disappoints. Would be a nice addition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNG4g354P3wAlso the new Hollie Cook album "Vessell of Love" is a favourite this year. Its Lovers Rock Reggae, and she's the daughter Paul Cook (Sex Pistols) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1--GrdPQWc

E.C. and JJ Cale- the Road to Escondido.
Great album-pity they didn't get the chance to bring it our way.
Music the past and future.
