Depends where you're talking about. I thought the loos inside the festival ground were virtually spotless with 2 cleaners at most sets of loos each day. The loos in the camp ground well that's another story, very neglected.

surley charliebear - clean toilets is not too much to ask for the $'s that are paid for camping?

unsure how staying offsite fixes the problem those that camp.

I doubt that I would be alone in this request....

Well I'm looking forward to bringing my prototype Homer Simpson inspired silo for on site waste management (SOSWM ), which will be located nice and handy to my tent. Drop by and say hi, you'll know where to find me. Contributions gratefully accepted!

I must say I did find being confronted by others' efforts while taking care of business a tad unpleasant to say the least. I feel the silo will be an important step towards civility.

Hi Waffles. Hi Dan. Hi Everybody. Hi Dr Nick.

Didn't camp on-site last year (won't be this year either), and my portaloo experience within the actual festival Bluesfest has never been too bad over the years, but I've been to plenty of other camping festivals where the toilets have been an absolute disgrace.

I don't get it... surely the contract that festival promoters enter with the hire companies is for the satisfactory maintenance of these facilities. Is it a case of hire companies undercutting each other to the point where they can't afford to maintain them properly? Most of the time when it gets bad we're not just talking mildly unpleasant (portaloos at their best are unpleasant). We're talking a lack of fundamental hygiene and surely OH&S violations.
