Gee, this one really hits hard.
And to think that I had - until he cancelled - tix to see him in Melbourne on 19/10!
Glad I saw his set at Bluesfest in 2017.

Yes, very sad. I saw TJW on the first night at my first BF in 2001 and have caught him every time he's played there, plus at some other venues.

"The Delta Singer" is great reminder of him (and Bluesfest).

RIP TJW

Andrew

I'm gutted. Like you Bondy, I had tix for his show in Melbourne until it was cancelled. I've lost count of the number of times I have seen him perform in all sorts of venues and festivals (including jazzfest in 2007). He was real, and one of the very few artists I would always make a point of seeing. RIP TJW...thanks for the music, thanks for the wonderful performances.

Such sad news. Thank you for the music Tony Joe. And thanks to Bluesfest have seen him play 7 times over the years. Has always been an absolute Bluesfest favourite for me.

We at Bluesfest are sad to hear of Tony Joe’s passing.
He first played Bluesfest in 1997, and last played in 2017. Nine times in all.
Thanks

Yeah, like, you, I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen him.
First saw him at Bluesfest in 1997.

My wife and I saw him at Tilleys in Canberra.
He was brilliant.
Unbelievably sad.

Another legend passes on to the great gig in the sky....................

"The white man had the schmaltz
The black man had the blues
No one knew what they was gonna do
But Tchaikovsky had the news...."

Love this song. When Elvis sang it I always thought he was saying "Poke Sally-Ann".

RIP Mr White.

One of my favorite artists, did not see this coming
A great artist, who didn't mind coming down under to entertain us

Heading out for the East Coast / Lord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through, / Tangled up in blues.

RIP

I was lucky enough to see and meet old Chomp many times, and he was a good bloke.
One saw him do a memorable set in the Lousiana Music Factory, and he told me how grateful he was to Brian Tanker Taranto for reintroducing him to all his Aussie fans and bringing him down here so many times. And he said to me " how is old Brian, is he still doing stuff with those Boys from the Cruel Sea"?

As fate would have it, I ran into Tanker yesterday and which was bittersweet, and I wished him all the best.

Another time Chomp told us how nice a guy Elvis was and that he was delighted that he put some of his songs on his live albums. and that he always enjoyed the royalty cheques turning up a couple of times a year.

RIP Tony

His solo rendition of "A rainy night in Georgia" in Jambalaya in 2017 was one of the weekend's highlights for me! True artistry!

I play this at least every other week

A couple of very different collaborations on Polk Salad Annie, each a gem:

Still can't believe he's gone. He was there almost 50 years ago in my youth, then he seemed to disappear, then came Lake Placid Blues...
