Declanboylan0000 in response to Aretha Franklin, she would be awesome but she would never come this far. She continues to pull out of gigs and disappoints the punters. The last being New Orleans Jazzfest. Ah well you can still dream.

She’s on the top of the list of artists I wish i’d seen live. The closest I’ve ever got with association is seeing Chuck Rainey in ‘87 in a small club in New York. Her bass player who played on ‘Rock Steady’. He was a very friendly guy and a funky bass player. We’ve all got great memories.

Aretha is far too young for this at only 76 years of age.

Nickipeek0000 you’re gonna have a hard time bringing Luther Vandross to Bluesfest. He passed away in 2005.

I got to see him in 1988 in San Francisco along with Shirley Murdoch. Now she’d sing her ass off at Bluesfest.

Don’t hold your breath for Neil Diamond as well!

Reeve Carney & The Revolving Band

(Carney in 2009 & 2010, still on my Bluesfest highlight list). Reeve seems to be back playing music after theatre/acting diversions

Bobby Long would be another one I'd like to see again (was here in 2011)

Nikki, I like your list a lot, although I think a few aren't as achievable as we'd like them to be.
Stevie Wonder and Dolly Parton would be the ultimate headliners for me next year.

It's gone pretty quiet after the first announcement. The fest has had some good discoveries but not really enough. Too many safe (read soft) options. Plenty of Blues exponents out there we should see, Larry Miller, Ana Popovic, Ronnie Earl, Sonny Landreth, Blindside Blues Band surely we can pull in a bit more blues rather than pad the days out with heaps of folkies!

To set a fire under the blues I'd also be suggesting Shemekia Copeland, Cedric Burnside Project, Samantha Fish, Otis Taylor and Mr Sipp.

I guess people have been banging on about this for awhile. It says the festival is "Contemporary Blues & Roots Music Festival", but as many have pointed out, the big acts are often not.
So how about some of the following really good temporary blues women:
Guitarists/singers/songwriters - Carolyn Wonderland, Samantha Fish, Tracy Conover (even just for her rendition of "Goin' Down") and Sue Foley.
Also singer/songwriter Dana Fuchs.
I remember seeing the reaction to Grace Potter and Beth Hart - the above would get the same reaction. Crowd stoppers.
Then there's the nu (contemporary) folkies or country folkies or country artists like Courtney Marie Andrews, Dori Freeman, Gillian Welch, Lori McKenna, Vogt Sisters, Amy Helm, Son Volt and Tami Neilson (Canada/NZ).
Others to consider would be Hurry for the Riff Raff, Amy Rigby(great album out recently - maybe her best) and Lilly Hiatt (John's daughter with her 3rd and best album out recently).

So many great suggestions so far. I'd especially like to see Stevie Wonder.
