Hi bluesfesters,

I saw Gov't Mule at the Metro in Sydney last night. Supported by Lucas Nelson.

Great gig. Warren has the guitar skills and the voice to pull off a great show. Gov't Mule are a tight band that know how to rock. Some of the keyboard solos were just fantastic!

Lucas was well-chuffed to be invited back for the encore. Haynes is all-class.

Should be headlining.
But there again, I'm glad they are not clashing with the Wailers on Thursday and Robert Plant on Friday.
Can't wait to see them.
Thanks Bluesfest for bringing them back.

Just got home from the Melbourne sideshow.
Played a completely different setlist to the Sydney gig.
Busted out covers of The Band's "It Makes No Difference" and Neil Young's "Cortez The Killer" for the encore, both of which featured Lukas Nelson.

Let's hope we get Cortez. Now that would be something.

It was a pretty lengthy version. I reckon 15+ minutes.

the mule set last night was some of the best ive seen so far this fest. especially that last 30 minutes.warren brought out Lukas nelson and others for a killer version of rocking in the free world and then Jackson brown for the greg allman classic
Melissa.
how does he go from full on hard rock to such a beautiful ballad?
so glad I was there, but sorry a lot of punters left to get a spot for Robert plant. after the mule set I found Robert plant very subdued.

I don't want to hang up my rock n roll shoes
I get a good time feeling every time I hear those blues.

Both Mule sets were excellent. And true to word no repeated songs. The second show was the better of the two imo but that's no reflection on the first set either.
I'm amazed Mule aren't more widely known and appreciated.
Agreed the final 30 minutes as Warren said 'time to have some fun'.
The main reason I got tickets this year and not disappointed at all.

I was only able to fit in the Mule's Thursday set. I was not disappointed. Less jams and more songs/vocals which pleased me as Warren has one great voice. LOvEd their version of Neil Young's "Southern Man" with Lukas Nelson.

Agree Southern man was a real gem for this old Neil fan and JB doing Melissa. Well a highlight really and a great gesture to Gregg Allman.

Music the past and future.

Gov't Mule release most of their concert recordings for purchase. Last time the Aus tour got released. Hopefully this tour will also. Only saw the Friday set, but heard that "Southern Man" on Thurs was amazing.

So keep a check on http://www.muletracks.com/catalog.html
