This may or may not be of interest to others but I love reminiscing about some of the shows I’ve seen at Bluesfest and one thing I love is watching clips of shows I’ve actually been in the audience for. Quality clips are hard to find but if anyone has any I would love to see them. I know someone once posted a clip of Taj Mahal’s last performance and I must have standing next to the person that filmed it.
One of the few clips that I have is the first time I saw Playing For Change. If you draw a straight line between the cameral and Grandpa Elliot, then one of those heads is mine.

I really enjoyed that show.

thanks for those, hadnt seen the clip of Joanna and laura ...great stuff.
the first time I saw Joanna shaw taylor at bluesfest ,it must have been 10 years ago
I had it in my head she was a folk singer. she was on early about 2 pm.
she came out,plugged in,hit a loud chord and I knew...she aint folk !!!
that tent filled very quickly!!

I don't want to hang up my rock n roll shoes
I get a good time feeling every time I hear those blues.

That was 2009 when she toured with Joe Bonamassa on his first tour of Australia.

She was great !!

.....and Laura is so under-rated unfortunately (except by those of us who have seen her perform live I guess). Such a sweet player.......

That's the one mgwfall. I remember because I had to walk out of Russell Morris's set to be there which I found a bit sad but anyway. Then to make matters worse they chose Russel Morris's excellent performace of The Real Thing for their fesitval wrap up video which only highlighted what I missed. Anyway !!!. For Taj I was 2 back from the barrier and at about the same angle you took these from. We must have been standing almost side by side. I really enjoyed that performance. I think Taj is getting on so I would love to see them bring him back sooner than later.

Great to hear that a decision is pending that could have mobile phones confiscated if people spoil other punters view of the performances,
with a selfish attitudes, holding their phones above head height for a whole performances thereby blocking the view for others,
who also paid for their tickets, with the reasonable expectation of getting a fair go, and a reasonable expectation that they might see the performance
without a moving wall of telephones blocking their view.
I have been informed by several phone selfie addicted people, that many make these recordings, and never watch them again.
For some it appears to have become an unnecesary habit, just so they can be cool, like everybody else.

PHOBIC'S post from 2015 say's iit better than I could.
3 years later and this issue is worse than ever..

"I just don't get the recording of a performance with a mobile phone, the sound will be crap, the vision will be crap...
and the recording is probably destined to not even be viewed. We humans haven't come to grips with this technology yet.
It seems that with any significant or moving event we feel the need to whip the phone out to record proceedings.
The net result is the punter doing the recording becomes disengaged from the "now" and spoils the event for others who want to witness it first hand "live".

I wonder how many years it will take for people to figure out how recording, film stars, and other celebrities on their mobile phones is a dumb response
to an encounter with someone you might have seen on the TV or internet.
It must be tiresome for the performers who are attempting to "connect" with an audience only to be faced with a bunch of idiots waving phones at them."

100% agree.

Maybe I should have been more specific. This is what I call a quality clip.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeK9m4y73HY

It's the same as the first one I posted. It's professionally made. Clips like this of Bluesfest performances are hard to find and I was hoping that other people might have some they would like to share. I normally don't watch mobile phone recordings because they're mobile phone recordings. An exception for me being mgwfall'sl clip of Taj because when you're upfront for a Taj performance it's like making regular eye contact with the man (as nearly everyone near me would have also found because he keeps looking down at the closest faces in the audience) and mgwfall's clip sort of caught that because he filmed it from right where I was standing. So I'm really glad mgwfall caught the moment.

Anyway, I didn't mean to ignite the mobile phone at the performance debate. The only reason I take a phone to Bluesfest is to phone my wife each night to say goodnight. Otherwise it's left locked in the car where it belongs. You people mightn't like mobile phones at performances, I don't particularly like them anywhere.
