In alignment with the wealth of talent visiting Australia for the Easter blues season, New Zealand’s Puhinui Peninsula will also become a melodious playground as the first ever GrassRoots event kicks off for two days on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th April, 2011 at the stunning Puhinui Reserve.

The two-day festival will bring together some of the world’s most renowned artists as well as a raft of local acts across a multitude of genres whilst still having its core ethos firmly grounded in blues and roots based music. Over thirty artists on two stages over the two days will launch GrassRoots – The New Zealand Blues and Roots All Music Festival 2011.

GrassRoots proudly brings to you a string of international artists who will be making their one-off exclusive performance in New Zealand over these two very special days. First artists to be announced include BB King (USA), Elvis Costello & The Imposters (USA), Ben Harper and Relentless7 (USA), Rodrigo Y Gabriela (Mexico), Eric Bibb (USA), Paul Ubana Jones (NZ), Ruthie Foster (USA), Cairo Knife Fight (NZ), Ticket (NZ), Don McGlashan (NZ), Sola Rosa (NZ) with many more local and international artists to be announced before the end of January.

Not only will festival patrons be afforded the opportunity to experience some of the world’s most dynamic and diverse performers, but there will also be camping and parking available for the full weekend and when respite is required one can enjoy a wide range of culinary delights from the plethora of food and beverage stalls, the NZ food and wines hall, as well as a selection of fully licensed bars on site. The festival will also host a wide variety of arts & crafts in the market village.

GrassRoots is bringing the music to New Zealand for Easter. Do not miss your chance to say that you were there first!

THANK YOU CHUGG ENTERTAINMENT!

This is really exciting! I look forward to sharing the good news about GrassRoots with as many New Zealander's as I can and attending myself.

Will New Zealander's who typically attend BluesFest's 5-day event be tempted to stay home for this 2-day event near Auckland??

The location of the Festival should ensure a good attendance from those who live in the upper half of the North Island, and if I recall, half the country's population used to be domiciled north of Taupo,so the line in the sand is probably now further north than that.

It provides an opportunity for locally domiciled music fans to enjoy two days of great entertainment without major cost for travel or board.

The music fanatics who travel to Bluesfest from NZ will not attend this festival as an alternative.

They are not part of its target market.

The interesting thing to ponder is what mix of music will attract a large audience.

"An artist never really chooses when and where they will play.It is for promoters to make offers. It comes down as to whether tours are financially viable." Quote John Mayall.

Just received an email from the Powerstation.

Funky Meters playing 15 April 2011

Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeshi Band playing 27 April 2011.

They won't take long to sell out a 1250 audience venue.

Grassroots Festival Cancelled
10 March 2011

Chugg Entertainment today announces with great disappointment, that the inaugural GrassRoots Festival scheduled for two days over the Easter weekend; Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th April, will regrettably be cancelled.

Since the devastating earthquakes in Christchurch, and the consequential standstill with which the entire country has come to, the very difficult decision has been made to cancel the event. We do not feel right seeking real media coverage for the festival while the country is so affected by this terrible disaster..

In its first year, promoters felt it vital to preserve the brand for future opportunities and do not wish to see the high calibre of acts playing to a crowd any smaller than they deserve, due to unfortunate timing and circumstance.

At a time when several other major tours are cancelling around New Zealand, we feel it important to try and give people space to deal with the most urgent issues at hand and recover.

Patrons are asked to return to their point of purchase to receive a full refund.

GrassRoots upholds a firm belief in environment and appreciates the power but also the futility of music in the face of true adversity. We endeavour to return in 2012 at a time when recovery and revival are in full swing and the country is back on its feet.

In the meantime, our hearts go out to all of those affected by this fateful disaster.

Ticket Refunds
The refund process is a bulk transfer back to each individual card holder. The process will automatically refund to the purchaser credit card. The batching of orders to facilitate this process will take place over the next 48 hours.

The process will be initiated on Monday 14 March. At this time the funds will enter the purchasers banking processes. Depending on the various transaction processes with your credit card provider the funds may take between 2 - 5 days to actually appear on your credit card.

If the process is held up - which may be the case for funds attempting to refund to an expired card for example we will contact you immediately.
