This young woman is amazing and it begs the question why hasn't she been identified and booked for bluesfest?? You want cutting edge??

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1RksfBsu6w

She's playing at Womad in a few weeks and at the Brunswick Festival in Melbourne but I don't know if she's performing anywhere else. She also sang at jazzfest last year.

I am surprised that none of the blues fans have commented on the compelling viewing Martin Scorcese presents The Road to Memphis,in which Bobby Rush is the opening artist featured.
And is prominently featured throughout the video,as are BB King & Ike Turner.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMyKgW3ZLjw
Bobby born 1933 & Ike born 1931 are similar in their approach to entertainment, including colourful stage costumes & at least one lady of Afro American genetics not skinny European Miss USA types[as James Brown showcased],a must,as we see with Audrey Madison replacing Tina Turner and doing a fantastic job.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h8fQQYa7i4
Judging by the comments to date,I do not think there were many attendees at Bluesfest 2018 who appreciated the slice of history we were presented with Bobby Rush.
The other prominent Afro American artists featured in that DVD have all passed on....which we can add to the other great black artists Bluesfest has booked over the years..The last links to the pre 1960 era are fading fast.
Appreciate any and all of them while they are still with us.
And appreciate Bluesfest for booking them.

I was hoping he was going to do sideshows considering he wasn’t listed as being exclusive to Bluesfest, but none eventuated.
I thought “The Road To Memphis” was the pick of the Scorsese series.

Hi Ranger

Thanks for your appreciation of Bobby Rush. I knew he would be a highlight of BF and he was, both with his band and his great solo show in which he told great stories.

Never to be forgotten. One of the greats !

totally agree. There is something so special to see such greats as Ernest Ranglin, Backsliders, Nile Rodgers doing their own sound checks; tunings; plugging in their tools of trade before a gig. To see Bobby Rush sitting up there working through his soundless chords and mapping out his solo set (checking his 84 yo fingers were responding to the messages from his brain and mouth) before it began was a piece of joy, And then when his gig opened, it flowed so effortlessly and was part documentary and music experience. The chitlin circuit - and his contribution- was a highlight of BF 18,
