The northern part of the small beachside surfing town of Lennox Head was hit by a waterspout that turned into a tornado when it hit land yesterday morning around 7.30-am.
100 houses were damaged - 17 destroyed - the town has been declared a disaster area by the NSW State Premier. Miracously, considering the level of damage - only 2 people were injured, although there are many people who are now homeless.

Lennox is around 15 minutes drive from Byron Bay, and is where a number of artists live such as Dallas Frasca, Juzzie Smith, Marshall & the Fro, Kim Churchill (sometimes) etc.
It is also where employees of Bluesfest live as well as the festival director. fortunately there are no reports at this time of anyone from Bluesfest or artists hurt or who's homes were damaged.
It is not possible to go into the entire northern section of Lennox right now as there is a lot of damage done and the cleanup is occuring.
We at Bluesfest wish our neighbors all the best in this terrible time for them, and will keep everyone posted on any future fund raisers etc.
