Where's all the "GOODS" for the Irish band "The Swell Season"? I'd never heard nor seen this band before and just thought they were awesome and am now a fan! Anyone notice his guitar? (The huge wear hole in it?) Bet he gets a few finger cuts from that. See it at Youtube "Swell Season 2010 04 02 The Rain". The sound is not too great as its amateur video but believe me it was awesome to be there and listen to them. Then when he got that young boy up on stage to hold the words to "Walking on a Dream". I thought he did a really good job of singing that. Someone in the audience told me they did the score to a beautiful movie called "ONCE". I'll have to get it out.

As I said in another post, have been a big fan for a while and they were my favourite performance this year. You can tell Hansard has had years of busking because he sounds incredible live!

Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova (The Swell Season) starred in this movie (as well as creating and performing the music). It was done on a really small budget, but I love it just for the music! One of the songs 'Falling Slowly' also won them an Academy award for 'Best Original Song'.

He also uses this guitar in the movie.

Probably more related to his abilities as a musician he's fronted The Frames for two decades, in my view Ireland's best band. They've toured in Australia several times (Bluesfest 2005 and supporting Bob Dylan in 2007 come to mind).

If you want a good source to get you started on The Frames, have a look at their concert in Sydney 2007
http://www.moshcam.com/the-frames/metro-theatre-17.aspx#/11-revelate

Their whole setlist is there if you scroll down- they played 'Falling Slowly', which Glen and Marketa played at Blues.. so you might want to relive that too!

For me his best performance is still the commitments.

Trumpet bells ringing
Bass drum is swinging
As the trombone groans
And the big horn moans
