I was just thinking about my first big concert that I went to, and I'm not sure of the year. It was Bob Dylan at the Sydney show ground, but I can't remember what year it was.
It has to be 1976/77, but not sure as I was a youngen. I do remember it was a mudfest, and I smuggled in one of those Spanish wine skins full of Blackberry Nip!!!!! ewww! It was off the back of the Desire album. If anyone can help me clear this matter up, I would be gratefull. You never know when you'll appear on ROCKQUIZ!!!!! Cheers

Pretty sure it was 1978, straight after the Easter Show, so it may not have been just mud on the arena. I still have the ticket stub at home somewhere.....

Thanks Andrew. That sounds about right. I kept my ticket stub for ages too!. I do remember people having mud wrestle and mud flinging fights. So that would have made me the tender age of 16! Cool

An unofficial bootleg of one of his Brisbane Festival Hall shows from the same 1978 tour circulates if you'd like to relive the experience... it's a really good quality soundboard recording.

It can be found here: http://rapidshare.com/files/3496869/Okay_I_Still_Get_Stoned.zip

You can also check out the Bob Dylan at Budokan album which was also taken from the same tour.

I think that this tour may have been 1978
Hang on I just found the ticket for the gig I went to.

Please retain we play rain or shine.

I could not find any price, but I know that it did piss down and luckily we were in the small amount of undercover seats up the front.
This was the tour not long after the Live at Budokan Album came out.
I was fairly delirious but I remember we were disapointed that Bob did not play Hurracane but the rest was all good

Budokan came out after the tour I'm sure. Bob's treatments were the cause of much discussion which they wouldn't have been if Budokan was released. The Sydney Showgroung was a bog and we were glad to have queued and bought tickets in the seated area.

It seems that Budokan was recorded in Japan about 3 weeks prior to the Aussie tour and released in Aus later that year.
If you can trust Wikpedia the Album was panned in the States but got decent reviews in Europe.
I still have the Vinyl somewhere but have not had a turntable for a long time.

Same tour- I wasn't sure if it was recorded before or after the Australian leg! Thanks.

There's a lot wrong with the Budokan album, and you can start with the fact that it was recorded at the start of the tour, when a lot was still being worked out with on the new arrangements. This tour preempted Street Legal rather than supported Desire so that's the sound that Bob was going for, and I'd have to say that Street Legal's a pretty ordinary album (save one or two tracks), largely because of the slickness and big sound they went for, and so shaping his back catalogue to sound like this for a tour might work by the virtues of a live experience but it doesn't necessarily translate into a live album.

If you do check out that link to the Brisbane show I posted, the reggae version of Knockin' that closes the show is priceless. One of the best things about Bob live to this day is the constant rearranging and changing of his songs... but it doesn't always work.

Wierd thing about my copy of it was the lyrics in the sleeve were completely out of whack. Verses out of order and in some cases, not even in the songs on the album

Always wondered about that
