Hmmmm.......not only is the dollar down, but perhaps the costs are increasing exponentially too........amongst other issues...... https://www.facebook.com/mountainsoundsfestival/posts/1150161848477550?__xts__[0]=68.ARA7edQi6qYz2sF-TQKeC-TK_YTR2nwzKg6qEu4GypWFKSQpspOQ7h4Qb-h6GJB_ifdtx9-Yv69NP-mukjpDIvO7IxJlD2dcGjK0GqljVo9PSMSoQeDOq84mQiZJSlTasIb6evhFr00uxew-8SDLpeq5luUlx_eUZYnO0p2epZap5AG8AmRC-3OPxqOOxMlIWj6SW7EA3n2T1X9KhyRGTgDigxzS9AmxKEroy-hjJXkiihhFjje7klj4slo7a-rFJDuzG2xeJTWiXeCTuZwUeXqoVzXr5gmJIy9q4EOlahOlSYWpIFQBzSD8RLdlMt8MwpMBG8ugKtGb6XiPbm54n_cPRc5JkiGrJxVprX9Rr4x8K3hgWHDZyO1APnZnD61nzkmSuze2rhlLiVSW4Sr66tDvzQlWUuikIH-zEZZI6d0a-BhOwS3NwxvHRe5YuLEGRjjMj7xlSCm2b8YKA96SAUbTfm7PNR3ra9MFCT_STcnUFMDihV-7hubzUsVKuMudRMO784bfVVdTa9os&__tn__=C-R "The white man had the schmaltz The black man had the blues No one knew what they was gonna do But Tchaikovsky had the news...."

The LNP government has crushed the music culture of NSW. First the lock out laws turning a vibrant city like Sydney into a dull boring ghost town after the sun goes down and now this. You have an opportunity to give them the boot, but at the same time don't expect too much of Labor. In the words of Dylan...TweedleDee and TweedleDum. We need to be mindful of the impact of this sort of shite on bluesfest. Dare I suggest that future criticism be of the more constructive kind?

And in even more depressing news about music festivals I've just read that the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues will not be held this year. It's been held every year since it started in 1990 and 2019 was to be the 30th Anniversary Festival. The official line from the organisers is that the festival has been postponed until 2020. The National Jazz Awards which have been an integral part of the festival since it's inception have also been postponed until 2020. It seems the festival ran at a loss in 2018 due to cost overruns and this has been given as the major reason for the postponement. Hopefully it'll be back bigger and better than ever in 2020.

Another fest that won’t be happening due to the extra cost - https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/music/music-festivals/psyfari-music-festival-cancels-2019-event-as-nsw-rages-war-on-festivals-over-drugs/news-story/a8613ae4a37aae2e5fdea755b01fc6d5

Peter Noble is right - the NSW government contributes zero $$$ and yet bluesfest attracts millions of $$$ in visitors' expenditure to NSW because of this event. And now the NSW government is crushing the once proud music culture of the state and making NSW a national and international laughing stock. As much as I would love to see bluesfest come down to Victoria, it's home is in Byron and that's where it should remain. Surprise us Gladys and actually do something constructive for a change...but I'm not holding my breath.

I'd love to see Bluesfest come to Tassie, but I know that logistically that will never happen. Victoria would be the next best option, though I am in agreement with it remaining in it's spiritual home of Byron if things can be turned around. Kudos to Peter Noble for standing up to the NSW government (though only time will tell if it has any effect)!! Canberra's a great location. I can't see what the delay is.

If it costs $400k for people to park on land that BF own, the cost of parking on land that BF doesn't own must be astronomical. On the plus side, it may mean Brisvegas gets more of the touring acts previously banned from doing side shows so close to Byron. Transport must be cheap. I hear some people can afford to have the Air Force give them a lift and the costs is so low that their employers still pick up the tab.

aside from the increased costs noted in the article, the other thing people will have a problem with is the fact peter noble disclosed the festival will not be able to get a full stregnth liquor license this year due to the new regulations, so anyone expecting the same quality of alcohol this year might want to rethink that one, this is not an issue for me as i don't drink but for those who do this may be a concern.

As a frequent festival attendee this comes as no surprise. It seems police are dictating music festival policy. As I live close to the NSW border if Bluesfest moves to Qld I might be able to attend, if not that’s the end of 30 great years for me and my family. Will Dorrigo go ahead this year? Does this apply to all music festivals? I went to Tamworth this year and no sniffer dogs, no police road blocks and very light security at venues. Does this only apply to designated festival sites? There are a hell of a lot of music festivals that do not have a dance style culture ,where most of these so called ODs happen, are they all going to have to close down. I might have to look at the new rules and see just what they are.
