Red Dog was the recent record breaking Aussie film. This question has not the remotest connection to that film

The Red Dog Saloon has what special place in the history of music in the second half of last century.
To be considered for honours list the then unknown bands who performed there as well as a brief overview.
(Bingo kindly allow Patrick/others 24 hours to answer)

Musicians OR Serial Killers ??

Heading out for the East Coast / Lord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through, / Tangled up in blues.

Well Greybeard I need a diversion from a night of watching You Tube clips of various bands from the CD list of Tedesco Records, followed by the 2010 clips of the Paladins on their European tour.
My copy of the The Rolling Stone Illustrated History of Rock & Roll published in 1976 is falling to bits, but that great full page picture on page 249 of the Charlatans is still in pristine condition.
That kinda looks like a saloon in a western type town they are standing outside.
Wish I had been able to catch Dan Hicks on his last Aussie tour.
Waistcoats, moustaches and cravats were hip in the 70's but seemed to have fallen from fashion.

that would be the red dog saloon in virginia city circa 1965.

the charlatans took over the joint and played concerts for 6 days, till they moved to san francisco and the rest is history.

i think they had help from their chemical travel agent.

if your tired or a bit run down
cant seem to get your feet off the ground
maybe you ought to try a little bit of LSD
shakes your nerves and rattles your brain
makes you act just a bit insane
gives you all the psychic energy you need-eat flowers and kiss babies -L.S.D.-for you and me.

-country joe and the fish.

gotta love the sixties.

I don't want to hang up my rock n roll shoes
I get a good time feeling every time I hear those blues.

Yes we're slowly getting there, the second photo shows known musicians with no proven convictions for serial killing - which I think Patrick tries to allude to. (Colt 45s are not often worn on the hip now either, very un-hip)

waffles writes, correctly locating the pub in the near Ghost Town of Virginia City nestled in the Nevada Mts @ an elevation of 1,874.52 m, but the larger story is still to be told.

the charlatans were the first band to play loaded on LSD -this was before LSD was declared a controlled substance in october 1966.
several followers from the red dog saloon went back to san francisco and formed the FAMILY DOG ,who went on to present many concerts and festivals where lsd was openly used.

Just in case anybody gets concerned about all the talk of LSD in the recent posts
I just wanted to say that there is a antidote nowadays called; Lysergic Acid Diethylamide 25
It's very dificult to get, but once obtained all your worries will be blissfully over.
