For people in Melbourne, here's an in-store performance to dream of - L'il Band of Gold AND Mary Gauthier at Basement Discs on Sat March 27 starting at 12.00. A l'il taste of down home Louisiana....

I would've so loved to have seen L'il Buck Sinegal play here!! He's an insanely underestimated guitarist. I've seen him play together with Rudy Richard....just sublime.....Clifton Chenier's main axeman. Anyway, doesn't matter, this is just going to be fantastic...whoever woulda thought???

You can smell the gumbo on their CDs but live you can almost taste it ! Just brilliant. And our own Lucky Oceans

Thoroughly agree, absolutely great!
That looked like Dave Ranson on bass - played with Sonny Landreth last year, anyone know?

We caught them last night too - awesome! Especially when Jon Cleary got up there with them. One of the highlights of the fest for me so far!

Jon Cleary got up with them on Saturday? Damn it, I miss one of the 3 sets, and it has to be that one.

Still, these guys were all class - the kind of group this festival is about. Multiple appearances, vast songbook, gracious nature. Huge ticks from me on Lil Band.

Agree with waffles elsewhere that their Thursday gig was marred a little early on by poor mixing and other tech probs (such as David Egan's mic being switched off during his verse of Spoonbread!), but still great to see them. However on Saturday and Monday the tech probs were resolved and they absolutely nailed it. It was great to see them having such a good time and great to see the smiles they put on everyone's faces - this is Southern Louisiana, the world's best kept secret! I'm obviously biased, but they were my favourite act of the fest - I just couldn't get enough!! I hope they're invited to return sometime in the future (along with Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys and CC /Lafayette Marquis). Thanks Peter for putting them on 3 times and thanks Brian for talking him into it!!
